Random Guest Stars in Saving Private Ryan

Trying to score points with celebrity surprises actually takes away from the experience. Hey, it's Ted Danson from Cheers!

The German sniper in the church steeple was Kevin Costner. However there was some sort of controversy and his credit was pulled, then added back, then pulled. If you have an early version of the DVD his name might be in it.
EDIT: Leo Stransky is now credited as the sniper. I don’t know what the foul up was but Costner was in original cast. A ‘typo” maybe.

Kind of reminds me of the end of Young Guns when one of the soldiers Billy and the Gang kill in the final shootout turns out to be Tom Cruise who was hanging out on set that day and asked could he be an extra.

Hollywood War movies has a long history of jam-packing stars in minor roles throughout the film. Saving Private Ryan was no different.
