Obviously once Dalton started interfering with shite he went crazy. But before that, what was so bad? He took 10% from each business to bring in more industry to Jasper. Hell, JC Penney was coming there because of him!

Just wondering what was so bad about him before Dalton showed up

What he did at the autopart store had nothing to do with Dalton. Plus, you don’t have a gang of thugs if you are doing what’s best for the town.

He drove like he lived off of Flannery.

did you honestly not see the extortion and racketeering operation he was running?

everyone in town gave him an extortion payment or your business burns down or you get beat up.

i dont see how any of that wasnt apparent to you

Agreed. Wesley was the backbone of Jasper. Dalton was a no-good meddler.

No shite.

He extorted money from everyone and used the town like it was his own personal playground. He destroyed livelihoods and put people in the hospital for fun. He also murdered people for little more than minor grudges.

Of all the “the bad guy is actually the good guy” movies, this isn’t the one.

The character was obviously a little over the top, fitting for the tone of the film. But there are dudes like that littered in small towns all around this country.

They’re normally called Chiefs of Police or Sheriffs.

He was a much more nuanced character in the book.

He used his power for extortion. His nephew was skimming from the Double Deuce knowing they couldn’t touch him. Even had a “Thursday night thing” he’d bang in the cooler.

Can we talk about the lack of or outright zero presence of law enforcement in Jasper? Not corrupt law enforcement…but ZERO presence. You can run big foots through buildings, murder people, beat women, fight, drive like an a-hole, and pull people’s throats out. Just throw float them in the pond.

JC Penny’s would never think about coming to that town.

It's a good thing for Maurice Minnifield that Dalton wasn't hired at the Brick in Cicely, AK.

Bogalusa could have used a Dalton in the 1970’s. That town would be a different place now.
