Or even canceled altogether.

Take this with a grain of salt, as it comes from an entertainment website outside the mainstream. However, a lot of people whom I follow/trust are taking this as gospel so I decided to post it here.

Apparently the strike, combined with the piss poor ratings of the third season, has put the series in jeopardy and there's a strong possibility that Netflix will pull the plug on The Witcher long before Liam Hemsworth can ever take over for Henry Cavill in the titular role.

Marca

quote:

On July 27, Netflix released the second part of the third season of 'The Witcher', the last one with Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt of Rivia. His replacement was going to be Liam Hemsworth, but this could take an unexpected turn after the last known events. It seems that the TV show has been put on hold despite having a fourth instalment confirmed and it is not clear that production will resume.

Everything has arisen as a result of a publication by Redanian Intelligence, in which they claim that filming of the fourth season was scheduled for this coming September. However, although they point out that this could be due to the strike of screenwriters and actors in Hollywood, the outlet argues that there could be more reasons behind it and that could make the third installment the one that ends 'The Witcher'.

At the moment, there is speculation that filming, if it resumes, may not start until 2024, with no specific date set. However, there are those who predict that the series may never see the light of day with Liam Hemsworth, who would not even have time to step into the shoes of the protagonist.

You hate to see it.

The writers of that show can just stay on strike indefinitely

This wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen. They could pump out the 4th season knowing it will be hot garbage.

That’s the right move. They royally fricked it and any attempt to bring it back is going to frick it more.

Didn't Cavill leave the show after they destroyed his character??

I mean, I don’t know anyone who plans to watch without Cavill. So they only did it to themselves.

I don’t think he ever outright said that, but that’s the general consensus.

The first season was good. The second season kind of sucked but had some good parts. The third season was so bad I can't believe it. Suddenly we're following all these peripheral characters instead of Cavill and Co., they also introduce a ton of new characters that get way too much screen time for no good reason. And the plot made no sense at any point. AND ALL THE NUDITY WENT AWAY.

I don't understand what happened. They hired a bunch of writers who hated the source material and the lead actor. That's normally a recipe for success.

Still holding out hope that he'll eventually be Shepherd in mass effect after that teaser he put out a couple years ago

I've only seen the first season. I haven't heard glowing reviews about seasons 2 or 3, but I did love Cavill's portrayal in season 1. Is it worth watching them?

The show was already on a two-year cycle. With the strike happening, we probably wouldn’t have another season for 3 or 4 years. Combine that with the poor quality of season 3 and the departure of Cavill, these rumors are not surprising.

I’d rather the show be cancelled than have another GoT season 8. Just end it.
