Showed my 12 year old some clips and he's convinced it's one of the best movies ever made.
The band scenes alone are better than anything I've seen in the last 10 years.
I reckon if you don't agree it'd be ight. Mmmmhmmmm

Some folks call it a sling blade, I call it a Kaiser blade.
BBT actually made a Slingblade short with Karl just in the mental hospital.
Found it on youtube, it is in two parts and the YT vid is crappy quality but you might find it elsewhere if you are interested.

I was just recently watching this actor's studio interview with him from when Slingblade came out: youtube
Aside from the sweet Colt 45's hat he's sporting, I was struck by how casual and almost dumbed-down his explanations were for something that a lot of people thought was a brilliant drama.

So much to love about that movie

Doyle Hargraves might be the biggest a-hole to ever appear on screen.
Lot of great performances in that movie, it was highly underrated when it came out.

What? It was a huge topic of conversation. It was nominated for 2 academy awards and won best adapted screenplay, plus a ton of smaller awards.

Loved that movie. I thought Lucas Black would have been bigger than what he is today.

I stand on a hill, not for a thrill, but for the scent of a fresh kill.

LEAVING HIS SOUL!

It would be a great Cable TV series if we were allowed to forget what happens to Doyle. An R rated animated series of it could be better than King of the Hill. I might start back reading comic books if they wrote some with the Sling Blade characters and life in Millsburg.
Doyle, Frank, Linda, would still live together, or Vaughn, Frank, and Linda. We could meet Vaughn's friend Albert, from the funeral home.
If Doyle is still alive, tthe band could still practice. Karl could be back out at the home with whoever replaces the W.T. Walsh character and Dr. Woolridge. Vaughn, Linda and Frank could go visit him in every episode. The Cox's outfit, Bill and shiftless Scooter, could bring jobs they need help with out to him. We could have Doyle's card games with JD Shelnut, the NAPA store owner, the day manager from Piggly Wiggly, and other Millsburg high rollers.
Morris might get a spin off origins show of his own. He'd probably make lots of mushroom tea, and drop a lot of acid.
