St Elmo's Fire is awful. Was Demi Moore supposed to be hot?

I haven't seen it in 30 years and it hasn't aged well. I thought Demi was very sexy when I saw it as a kid but upon rewatch..nope. Even her "jukebox kiss" scene wasn't remotely sexy in any way. How could I have had such a different memory of this as a kid?

this movie definitely did not age well.

I don't know man, fitting 7 people into a jeep is pretty badass.

That alone should have won best SFX.

It's the Yuppie "Big Chill" - take it for what it is.

The movie rings totally hollow though. You have all these white Yuppie Georgetown grads in D.C. during the Reagan boom and they can't find jobs that pay real money.

Demi wasn’t the hot chick in that movie.

A young Gamecock fan by the name of Andie McDowell was ... the hot chick.

The movie was typical of the times.

I’ll defend any cheesy coming of age 80s flick.

Were they Oscar quality, no. But they all had great casts and soundtracks and remind me of a better time.

A month or so ago the wife and I watched St. Elmo's Fire for the first time in what must be since we saw it in theaters or it first came out on VCR.

Not a single one of the characters wasn't severely fricked up at some point in the movie with the possible exception of Ally's character (depending on how you look at her). Maybe it's just the perspective of age but every single one of those characters screamed "avoid me and my needless drama like the fricking plague".

I mean, hell, St. Elmo's fire is derivative of both the Big Chill and the Breakfast Club (both of which came with their own layer of cheese).

If you weren't an actual high school kid in the mid-80's (even college kids of the time saw through the "drama"), this movie shouldn't be your touchstone. It's fun soap opera entertainment.

Kasdan can deny it all he wants. The Big Chill is a Hollywood remake of Return of the Secaucus 7.
