If you have Prime, watch this. Excellent true story starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones about historical case in Mississippi. Highly recommend.

My post in the other thread:

It’s preachy and awkward. It’s a straight to VHS movie with its corny dialogue and cheap feeling sets/direction.

Let me guess: White Man Evil?

Not really. It is a good story and one that is not over top either way.

I don't know the real history because I'm too lazy to look it up but I've heard Willie Gary is real POS in real life

I just watched the movie this evening, and both these takes are completely wrong.
The impetus for the lawsuit was that a white man, played by Tommy Lee Jones, got screwed in a deal by another white man.
A young black lawyer, who was a friend of Jones’ characters son, suggests that since the case will be tried in a predominantly black county in Mississippi with a black judge, that Jones hire a black attorney. In response, the company Jones is suing goes out and hires their own black attorneys.
There were a few scenes that to me, summed up what the idea of the movie was. At one point during the trial, then defense lawyer tried to equate O’keefe “inheriting the company from his father” but simply not being as successful as Loewen. Later on, there was a scene with O’Keefe and Willie Gary where O’Keefe shared that his grandfather was a sharecropper, like Gary when he was a child.
I guess for some what you take from this movie is going to be based on what you’re looking for.
