Trailer
quote:
Per the official description, the series centers on police detective Ralph Anderson who "sets out to investigate the mutilated body of 11-year-old Frankie Peterson found in the Georgia woods. The mysterious circumstances surrounding this horrifying crime leads Ralph, still grieving the recent death of his own son, to bring in unorthodox private investigator Holly Gibney, whose uncanny abilities he hopes will help explain the unexplainable."
Ben Mendelsohn leads the 10-episode first season as Detective Anderson, while Cynthia Erivo is set to play Gibney, the P.I. called in to help Anderson uncover the truth of what happened to the young child found in the woods. The cast also includes Bill Camp, Mare Winningham, and Jason Bateman — who directed the first two episodes — as the accused murderer.
The Outsider premieres Sunday, Jan. 12 at 9/8c on HBO.

The atmosphere looks very in line with True Detective S1 and Sharp Objects. I guess HBO really likes rural noir detective stories.

Exactly what I thought watching the trailer as well. Def think it has potential with that cast.

Also, Bil Camp (You'll remember him from 'The Night Of') is in this.

I've really enjoyed these moody, short series that HBO has been doing
While The Night Of went off the rails with the writing, I still enjoyed it for the most part
Sharp Objects was great

Based on the setphen king book?
Spoiler alert. The ending is stupid. Better yet, the whole second half is dumb. The first half was suspenseful and thrilling, but it takes a predictable King twist halfway through.

Yes. You have to just let your mind go to end some of these Stephen King things. There is no way to tie these supernatural stories into a logical realistic setting. There is always a semi-demonic supernatural force that has been so for generations and generations. But I liked the book and look forward to the HBO mini-series. I suspect based on the book Jason Bateman won't make many episodes.

I felt like The Outsider was Family Guy's joke about King come to life.

This. A lot of people on the book board hated the ending because the first part is kind of a detective story, but you are reading Stephen King after all. If you don't want the boogie man, read Michael Connelly.

Agree completely. Shame because the first few hundred pages is the best stuff King has written in years. Will watch because Ben Mendelsohn is fantastic.

That’s how you adapt a fricking Stephen King novel. A mini-series. From HBO.

I got about halfway through the book and got freaked out and never finished
something about reading a horror book while home alone is way scarier than watching a horror movie alone. What I read was solid though
