Since the SAG Awards is a show put on by a union, the speeches are usually about solidarity and brotherhood and sisterhood and yadda-yadda...

Last night Chalamet went against the current, got up and planted his flag.
quote:

Chalamet announced, "I know we're in a subjective business, but I'm really in pursuit of greatness. People don't usually talk like this, but I want to be one of the greats."

"I'm inspired by the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight," he continued. "I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I'm deeply grateful to that. This [award] doesn't signify that, but it's a little more ammo, a little more fuel to keep going. Thank you so much."
quote:

Chalamet continued, "I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to me, but the truth is this was five and a half years of my life. I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honor of a lifetime playing him. It's an honor I share with [Monica Barbaro], [Elle Fanning], [Edward Norton], and the rest of the cast, in a genre, doing a biopic that can be, perhaps, tired. Everyone gave it their all, so deeply grateful to them all."
The SAG Award is the closest thing to a major award that he's won so far, after being nominated time and again. I guess he figured this was his one shot.

I've got no problem with it. He didnt say he was one of the greats, just that he aspired to be them.
Athlete says this and we fawn over their drive and love of the game.

i have no problems with his comments. i'm sure he's a typical hollywood guy, but he's come off pretty cool to me most of the time.

Absolutely nothing wrong with his words. The man clearly poured his heart and soul into the role and won an award for his troubles.

He seems like a good dude. Not sure how much of his public persona is really how he is or just an act. He was on College Gameday this past season, and seemed incredibly knowledgeable about College Football and was spouting off very detailed facts, including some about smaller and less-followed schools. He seemed super into it, but maybe he was just acting? Either way, it was impressive.

He's been very good in every movie and I don't see him slowing down. He's pretty versatile in the roles he plays too, from Wonka, to Dune, to Bob Dylan..All very different.

Something I noticed when he hosted SNL. After he'd do something musical... in the monologue, during the show... while the audience was applauding them into the break, you'd see Chalamet walking around, thanking each musician in the band.

Good for him. That should be his goal and there is nothing wrong with publicly stating that.

Rewatching Homeland for the 3rd or 4th time. Saw his name as a guest star in the credits in Season 2, & realized he's the d*ckhead VP's private school son who kills the lady in a hit-and-run with the Marine terrorist's daughter in the car..

He seems like a really cool dude. Like he’s probably the biggest star that college Gameday has ever pulled in to be a guest picker, and he wasn’t even just sitting in a trailer until the picks segment. During the Pat McAfee hundred thousand dollar kick contest, he was standing right down there with them, recording the thing on his personal cell phone.

I wasn't posting it to shite on him. It was just hilarious to watch all of the people with the usual self-deprecating speeches and then Chalamet stepping up to own his award. What made it even better was that he's the perfect team player but then finally took an opportunity to call his shot.

I need him to keep acting so he can play Stetson Bennett in a movie.

I’m sure this has been said already, but he is very much the blank slate like Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, etc. I’m not sure if those types of actors get the recognition they deserve. The Academy seems to lean towards powerful individual performances or whomever the new hip thing is.
