I’m hoping this is good. I love Shane’s comedy and his sketch show Gilly and Keeves.

Based on the first Gilly and Keeves sketch. Looks like they deleted it from the G&K page since Netflix is picking it up, and someone else re-uploaded it.

Will be a major hit. I expect more sketch comedy from Gillis and the gang to appear on Netflix.

My old apartment complex in King of Prussia, PA taken from Valley Forge.

That alone is why I will watch.

Refreshing to see a comedian actually go into acting rather than end up on the infinite podcast / live show circlejerk tour.

That’s what he’s been doing since getting fired from SNL

While I agree that can get repetitive, protect our Parks is never not hilarious. Enough new events pop up each time to make it interesting.

You’ve met him? Tell us more?

It’s not surprising if true. He seems like a good ole baw that would be fun to hang out with.

His cohost Matt McCusker is the exact same. I saw one of his shows in Nashville and he reached out for a handshake before I could even say hey. He is EXACTLY how he is on the podcast.

Netflix renews "Tires" for a second season, before it's release date tomorrow. That seems kind of odd...it must be good if they are doing this before getting any viewership numbers on Season 1?

quote:

The streamer has handed out an early second-season renewal for the scripted comedy starring Shane Gillis. The pickup arrives just before the series, co-created by Gillis, Steve Gerben and John McKeever, officially arrives May 23. Season two will arrive in 2025 as Netflix plots more programming to return on an annual basis similar to broadcast fare.

Gives me a vibe of the British The Office, which seemed less sitcommy than the American version. A blue collar version of that.

I watched the first episode. It was pretty good. Was hoping it would be better. Some legit laugh out loud moments though and I think the show will get better. It did have a bit of a The Office feel to it, which is fine in my book.

Not uncommon. They have faith in it, they watched it and thought it was good, and internal metrics tell them its going to do well enough to have a 2nd season

Also, Gillis is big enough now so Netflix is just telling him: we want to be in the Shane Gillis business. Specials, shows, producer credits, etc

There's a ton of money in comedy right now and Netflix wants to be in business with the biggest names. To give an idea shirtless hack Bert Krysler made 35 mill last year off touring alone.

I think you are mostly right about this. Gillis has an extremely loyal and rabid fanbase. He leads Patreon in subscribers, so Netflix probably assumes all of his fans who don't already have Netflix will 100% subscribe just for "Tires".
