Fun fact: Whenever I hear Anna Kendrick's name mentioned, I think of Lieutenant Kendrick, and this scene:

quote:
Col. Jessup : “Hmmmm... transfer Santiago. Yes, I'm sure you're right. I'm sure that's the thing to do. Wait, I've got a better idea. Let's transfer the whole squad off the base. Let's... On second thought, Windward! Let's transfer the whole Windward Division off the base. John, go on out there and get those boys down off the fence, they're packing their bags. Tom!”
Tom : “Yes, sir!”
Col. Jessup : “Get me the President on the phone. We're surrendering our position in Cuba!”
Tom : “Yes, sir.”

Another fun fact: Col. Jessup was in the right the entire time.

If I concede that Jessup was right in how to properly train Marines, will you concede that Jessup was wrong to disobey an order from his superior to put a stop to code reds and wrong to hang two subordinates out to dry for the crime?

I'll concede that.

I am honestly confused as to why Santiago is such a poorly motivated Marine. As someone who has never served, do guys that pathetic make it through recruit training?

He had a heart condition.

Would that not exclude him during recruit selection during physical examination, and if it was not picked up during initial physical examination, if it was detected later on, would it not have been an open and shut medical discharge?

The government will stipulate.

He is dead because he has no code
He is dead because he had no honor
And God was watching.

Jessep: Maybe we as officers have a responsibility to this country to see that the men and women charged with its security are trained professionals. Yes. I’m certain I once read that somewhere. And now I’m thinking that your suggestion of transferring Santiago, while expeditious, and certainly painless, might not be in a manner of speaking, the American way. Santiago stays where he is. We’re gonna train the lad. You’re in charge, Jon. Santiago doesn’t make 4,6 – 4,6 on his next fitness report, I’m gonna blame you. Then I’m going to kill you.

I'm shocked that Aaron Sorkin would make one of his villains a religious Christian.

No he fricking wasn't and he's the worst kind of moron to have in charge of anything. Dumb delusional frickhead was living in a fantasy world where Cubans were going to try and attack Guantanamo.

President Bartlet was very devout, so I don't follow.
