I say Godsmack. Fromtman Sully is definitely a Layne Staley wannabe. Named the band after an AIC song and definitely tries to sound like him. But they have some solid albums regardless.

Saw them open for Black Sabbath years ago, Pretty decent band. My vote for underrated nu-metal band goes to Straight Line Stitch. Alexis Brown was doing harsh female vocals before it blew up with Jinjer and others.

Black Veil

Remission

What makes them annoying is that they deny all of this.

For example:

quote:

Reno Gazette-Journal: Do you get a lot of comparisons to ALICE IN CHAINS?

Shannon Larkin: "I don't hear it. I was never a big ALICE IN CHAINS fan. Layne's (Staley of ALICE IN CHAINS) voice is amazing, but I never heard it. If somebody said GODSMACK sounds like METALLICA, I could totally hear that. Sully sounds like (METALLICA's James) Hetfield to me. I guess there's a darkness to the harmonies that sounds like Layne and Jerry (Cantrell),but to me it's still apples and oranges."

Well they are definitely not on AIC’s level, but they are lying if they say they don’t try to sound like them.

Papa Roach is one of those bands that gets overlooked despite being super versatile and having a ton of radio airplay.

Getting Away With Murder, Scars and Last Resort are guilty pleasures

Met the lead singer (Jacoby) once and had a nice chat, he was super cool. He said his Grandma lived in Baton Rouge which seemed random and couldn’t tell if he was making it up

Godsmack singer sounds like Staley? Really? I don't hear it and have never thought of AIC when listening to Godsmack. But I only know a couple of their songs.

The Apex Theory - I actually think it's unfortunate that they got lumped in with Nu Metal, because their music was so much more complex. Trivia fact: singer Andy "Ontronik" Khatchurian was the original drummer in System of a Down.

Shhh...Hope Diggy

Apossibly

It's a shame that the tracks on these old Vevo videos are so compressed. They, unfortunately, sound like MP3s.

I saw Straight Line Stitch open for Nonpoint. Good show.

It's pretty amazing really how they've managed to stay relevant so long now. Expecially considering how nu metal they were at first.
