How To Watch Pels Games

The Pelicans have replaced Bally's Sports with Gray Media's OTA (antenna) new channel Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network (GCSEN). That means that currently you may not be able to watch the Pels in the same ways as last year.
TL;DR
- Local Gray Media TV stations (antenna): Cost - Free. The quality varies by signal strength/your antenna Find your local station
- Pelicans+ Streaming App: Cost - $14.99 per month or $99 per year. 1080p quality. Apps for most streaming platforms although FireTV is the only currently confirmed app. You can watch games with your subscription with a web browser at watch.pelicans.com You can also watch the game in the NBA League Pass App.
Pelicans+ website to subscribe & watch
Pelicans+ Fire TV app
Pelicans+ Apple app (not yet available)
Pelicans+ Roku app (not yet available)
- Cox Cable: Channel NO 10, BR 22, Laf 22, Mob 78 Cox
- DirecTV: Coming Soon. DirecTV says you can watch through Pelicans+ if you have a Gemini set-top box. DirecTV
- NBA League Pass: For out of market fans, NBA League Pass is how to watch games if you don't live in the local viewing area. NBA League Pass
The Pels have some good information on ways to watch on their website. LINK
Currently Cox and FuboTV are the only cable/streaming providers with access to the GCSEN. However, it looks like it will be coming to DirecTV and you can access Pelicans+ via DirecTV's Gemini Set Top Box.

I will be updating this OP as you guys post reports of the success and failures in being able to watch the games.

DIRECTV is working with Gray TV to potentially make the Pelicans telecasts available to satellite, streaming, and U-verse customers in the core New Orleans metro region while also enabling other fans who live further away to see the team, too. In the meantime, any DIRECTV via Internet customer already has a Gemini set-top box, so they can download the Pelicans+ app and watch Pelicans games as part of their usual DIRECTV experience.

Of note to those interested in streaming. It worked flawlessly last night. Also can pay a single $99 fee for the entire season if you don’t want to pay monthly.

Yeah, being able to pause the game was so nice.

So I purchased pelicans plus. And it worked great on my phone. But I have Samsung tvs which don’t offer the nba app so I have to airplay it from my phone to the tv. This was very glitchy. I tried it on all 3 tvs and it kept messing up on all 3. I have fiber internet and newest iPhone. I hope it comes to directv or YouTube tv soon.

Great post! Coulple notes to add that I didn't see in the original post:
1. FuboTV is a streamer that is currently carrying GCSEN
2. Starting Friday night, the Cox channel number for NOLA will move to channel 10 and Baton Rouge will move to channel 22, which will be permanent channel numbers.
Fox8 Cox Announcement
Baton Rouge Cox Announcement
For those using the OTA option, there is a device called Tablo, it is effectively a in home DVR that can receive OTA channels, record them, and allow you to access both live tv and recordings on any smartTV in your home. This can be helpful for recording but also if you want to position your atenna in a different place than your TV to get better signal.
Its relatively inexpensive at 99 bucks and no monthly fees. Tablo

Also purchased Pelicans+ through NBA League Pass online, but when I tried to access it for the game through the League Pass app on Roku I couldn't find it. Ditto for YouTube TV. In both cases it just prompted me to purchase NBA League pass and later showed no option to "watch" the game on demand, saying it was in my viewing area. It has my NBA ID right and account info shows I'm a Pelicans+ subscriber, but that doesn't seem to translate to giving me access to the game. The only way it works so far for me is through the watch.pelicans web option on my computer browser. Any thoughts?
I thought Pelicans+ was going to be a stand-alone app like Bally's was not some sub-service of League Pass...

That's what all of their documentation says, and there is a separate Pelicans+ app out for FireTV. I couldn't find one for Apple or Roku yet. It's a really simple app so my guess is they are waiting for approval from Apple/Roku.

I wish they'd just say that then because I've wasted a very frustrating 45 minutes or so searching every nook and cranny of Apple and Roku for the Pelicans+ app, and that with the Bally's app just sitting there plain as day mocking me...

If you guys are able to download the app for Apple or Roku let me know. I just updated the OP to include the link to the FireTV app and will add the Apple and Roku ones when they are out.

Anyone had luck with Fubo? I didn't have that channel, is it only a New Orleans thing?
Posted on 10/24/24 at 8:33 pm to CP3forMVP
Haven't checked on Fubo yet but was planning to.
I did ask Roku customer support by phone if the Pelicans+ app was available on their site and they couldn't find it either.
Seems like things may not be as finalized as press release led us to believe.
So far since signing up I can only get it to work on my computer at watch.pelians.com. No joy on AppleTV or Roku or through NBA League Pass app on those platforms. Though my NBA ID shows I have a subscription to Pelicans+, it continues to black out replays of the games as if it were standard League Pass. No response from email to Pelicans+ customer support.
I'm giving up for now. I've already spent way too much time trying to get this thing to work, including my least favorite activity in the world--spending blocks of time on hold with customer support, chatting with online AI bots and scrolling through hundreds of obscure apps trying to spot the one I'm looking for after search repeatedly directed me to the 1993 film version of John Grisham's "The Pelican Brief"
I'm on a monthly. If it doesn't sort in the next few weeks I'll just cancel and get a DVR for my antenna...

For Pelicans + streamers:
For some odd reason, the NBA app isn't available as an app on smart TVs. So you'll need to access the app through a connected device if you want to watch on your big screen and avoid casting from mobile. I was able to use my Xbox Series X and it worked flawlessly. I'm linking the list below for all connected devices that have the NBA app. In my opinion, the easiest option, if you don't have any, particularly a console, is getting a Firestick or Chromecast. Amazon sells their 4k firestick for around $30 to $40 and I believe Google has the Chromecast for $50+.
NBA App Supported Devices
Mobile and Tablets:
iPhone (OS 15+)
iPad (OS 15+)
Android (OS 7.0+)
Android Tablet (OS 7.0+)
Chromecast (Gen 3+)
Connected Devices:
Roku OS 11+, 5th Generation+ (select countries)
Apple TV (OS 15+)
Android TV
Amazon Fire TV and Fire Stick Gen 3+, Fire OS 7+ (select countries)
Hisense (select countries)
Comcast Xfinity Flex, Xumo TV, Xumo Stream Boxes, and cable boxes (select countries)
Gaming Consoles:
PlayStation 4, 5 (select countries)
Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S (select countries)
Virtual Reality:
Meta Quest (US only)
More:
Apple Watch
Peloton
Apple Vision Pro

I’ve been using the following to watch TNF, out of market Bengals games, and the 1st Pels game
Pretty solid streams. Only need to reset here and there. Ability to fast forward and rewind about 30 seconds if you want to see a baddie in the stands or rewatch a sick Missi block.

So Fox 8 telecast of first game that wiped out Fox national broadcast is not permanent? Thank God. Put this crap off on some obscure place where the idiots that want to watch can pay for it.

Anyone know if hulu carries the Monroe station?

At least on Cox in New Orleans, it appears the GCSEN channel number changed. It was 129 on Wednesday, now it's 10.
