I’m here in Dallas & this trade has shaken up the entire Metroplex. I have heard so many things I don’t what is true. There are going to be many books written about this trade. It’s the most shocking trade in NBA history. Jerry probably needs to send a gift basket to Nico for making him the 2nd most hated GM in the area. Stay tuned

Naw. Luka in five years is really fat.

It was an awful trade for Dallas Metro area. He was your next Dirk as far as getting a foundational piece for 10 years.
I bought a stars cap last week.

You know how many assets teams would unload for Luka? Even if he was to become a lardass?
He is a top 5 player. They got absolute shite for him.

They got a top 10 player (cost controlled), a rotational wing and a future 1st. It's not nothing.
People have role played this over and over. It would have been worse if they put him on the market and Doncic could have killed trades to just about anywhere else, so they would be stuck together. No matter what they never get fair value. It never ends in a win for Dallas. They had to take lumps, if they wanted to move on. There is no trade that makes Mavs fans happy..

top 10 player
When healthy --- which is his ENTIRE career in a nutshell and its only gotten worse aside from last year. He's 32. How much time does he honestly have left at this level, 3 years?
In the past 5 years (including this one), he's exceeded 60 games once. He's already injured this year and will likely not exceed 60 games.
That's gambling.

cost controlled
He is on a 3/175mil deal (58.5mil/yr), that is not cost controlled. That is max money.

rotational wing
A role player who was a net negative by every advanced statistical manner. On off. BPM. VORP; sure rotational wing.

future 1st
A single future 1st that won't benefit you until 2029.
That's the biggest blunder. Nobody knows what's going to occur in 2029, hell Luka could leave, but this is also the team that said frick it and pushed all in and gave up more draft capital for fricking Mark Williams.
They gave up Dalton Knect (a better cost controlled wing), filler money (Cam Reddish), 2030 1st round swap, AND an unprotected 2031 1st. That is bonkers.

Luka is stuck for 2 years, even if he poisoned the well. Not having a no trade clause can limit him and if he gets traded to a contender, he's already likely to stay based on what we've seen from him.
You closed a potential 10 year window for 3 years at best. They cheaped out.

I don't like Davis, but he's a really good player right now. You are right that he doesn't have long left. But he still has tremendous value. If someone went to the Lakers and wanted to trade for Davis, it would have taken a ton to get him.

Christie is ascending. He is two years younger than Knecht and is a good defender. He's been solid for the Mavs since the trade. He has a bright future.

There is a lot more to there separation than we know. The relationship soured and they viewed it as unsalvageable. As you pointed out, they are paying Davis a max so they didn't go cheap.
This is the crux though, you stated they got robbed. That's an emotional statement. No package would have made them happy, since they (the fans) wanted to keep Doncic. So what could they have received which would have made them happy with a trade?

Dallas is so fricked. They thought they had a 2-3 year window with Irving and Davis. Irving suffering a significant injury this late into the year and turning 33 in a couple of week, their window closed as fast as Nico traded Doncic.
Mavs fans are going to be resentful for another decade watching Luka haunt them while their owner will look for avenues to get that team to Vegas.

Like i said in the original thread, this gm will be laughed at for the next decade or longer.
I think he got into a pissing match with Luka and he outsmarted himself.
That gm isn’t fit to be a janitor for an nba team. Season tickets are gonna tank.

Speaking of which, they are also asking for a big increase in season ticket costs.
Those fans aren’t happy to say the least.

Yup, torn ACL this late in the season means Kyrie misses at least half of next season, maybe the whole season as he won’t try to rush back.
Dallas is fricked big time.
That’s what they get for hiring a shoe salesman as GM and not having someone watching over him.

Shoe salesman?
Did he score four TDs in one game at Polk High in Chicago?

And they lost all leverage by trading for an aging superstar. Luka could get hurt for the year, recover, and lose no value cause of his age. AD is a ticking time bomb. It really is just an impossibly bad trade and it’s the Lakers who come out taking all the winnings as usual. No team fails and fails and fails and lands back on their feet like the LA Lakers.
Posted on 3/4/25 at 3:01 pm to spaghettioeauxs
They have a knack for failing upward time and time again. Sucks b/c they are really not a good organization. They make bad trades that shoujd doom them for years but then come out golden.
At least they got cock blocked from getting CP3 from us.

I don’t. They are a divisional rival and got worse, so screw them.
