Looking at the Generac GP6500. Anyone have feedback on this unit? What other brands that you have experience with that you would recommend in this size range?
Thank you
Thank you

Don’t use it inside of your home. Or so I’m told

Honda brand is the best, hands down. Not that generac isn’t good, but if you want the absolute best, it’s going to be Honda.

Also costs significantly more
All generators will work fine if properly cared for

I’ve got a Simpson Powershot and it’s been great. I think it’s powered by a Honda motor

Get a Kohler generator.
Generac has had problems.

Take my advice to heart. Many brands but this is an option as they offer an inverter with a high watts rating.

You can then add a parallel kit and add a 2500 inverter along with this. They are quiet compared to the others. Fuel Effecient, More portable, will have additional uses for them. All around better combo to have than the loud gas guzzling generators.

I'm so grateful for my dad buying two small Hondas, one after Gustav and another after retirement in 2011.
I would have never paid what he paid for them. But when they got the home generator, I snagged both of these.

They both still start on one pull, are AMAZINGLY quiet, reliable, and gas sippers that I can run most of the house with for 3 days on 10gal of gas.

I've got one, and love it. Starts on the first or second pull every time. Used it now for about 3 years during outages. I'll usually run a heater+TV+other small appliance...in summer during storm outages i'll alternate fridge and chest freezer.

We had terrible luck with generac at out old hunting camp where there was no electricity. Bought a predator from harbor freight and zero issues. Would recommend predator which is a Honda knockoff

I have a Wacker 6600. Honda engine, auto idle, easy start, quiet. Has worked fine for me. Pic doesnt show, but wheel kit is available.

I have a GP6500. Got it a couple years ago. No issues so far.
I also have a honda 3000 inverter that I bought back in 2008 right before Gustav. 12 years later and it still cranks on the first pull. About as rock solid of a generator as you can get.

I have a predator also. So far so good. I have the 9250 watt model. It’s thirsty and heavy.

Reliable enough.
Honestly we've run the frick out of my predator 3500 inverter from HF. I liked it so.much I bought a spare still in the box.
Just rolled.it out and ran my house (nat gas) heater and some fridges and cranked on the first push of the button.
Those predator old style gems run great as well. Just loud as shite and pick up a NGK spark plug for it. Will foul the Chinese shite one not long after break in.

This feels like an impulse purchase.

I have the Generac 5,500 and absolutely love it. Bought it right after the flood in 2016. Always cranks on first or second pull. I back feed my house with it easily.

I do not pretend to be an expert, but a lot of people had struggles with generac brand after Hurricane Laura. Returns were plentiful. I bought a Firman 9,000/ Dual Fuel and it has performed beautifully. Low cost, low maintenance, and hasn't failed yet. I had never heard of the brand prior to the storm. Good luck on your purchase.
