In another move that could boost the Baton Rouge area’s move toward a cleaner industrial corridor, a Texas-based energy startup on Monday announced it will consider a 1,700-acre site on the Mississippi River’s west bank in Ascension Parish for a $7.5 billion hydrogen-ammonia plant.
Clean Hydrogen Works, formed in 2021 in Grand Prairie, Texas, is teaming up with Denbury Carbon Solutions and Hafnia for the new plant, which would create 350 new jobs by 2030 at an average salary of about $73,000, according to Louisiana Economic Development.
The three firms are calling their partnership Ascension Clean Energy. Denbury is the largest carbon dioxide pipeline operator in the U.S., and Hafnia is the world’s largest tanker fleet company.

This + the Formosa Plant would be a huge boost to south Louisiana’s economy. 350 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs, so it’s OT friendly.

But but but, we have to divest from these blue collar plant jobs and bring in hi tech opportunities
This is good news if it happens. This state needs the boost.

Please Louisiana don't screw this one up. Just give them what they need and don't ask for kickbacks. Do it in the name of public service.

Plenty of investment planned and the locals are trying to destroy it with NIMBY attitude.

The LNG facility being built south of Belle Chase is no joke either

my brother lives in Jesuit Bend and says it's huge, but he's also of the belief that efforts are being made to get the people out of lower Plaquemines and leave it all for industry

Where is this going to be located?
Say what? I'm confused. Iberville Parish is to the west of Ascension.

Should it come to fruition, the facility would be built on 1,700 acres in the RiverPlex MegaPark, a 17,000-acre swath of land in Ascension Parish that is bordered to the north by the Mississippi River and to the east by Iberville Parish.

Is that because of industry or the risk of flooding?

It is close to industrial feedstocks, ports and other facilities such as BASF, CF Industries and Honeywell, to name a few.
So it's going a few miles south where the new bridge is likely to be built, and a few miles north of Donaldsonville. Smart move on their part - their workers can easily get to and from east Ascension and EBR. Or to Iberville and West Baton Rouge if that's where they live.

Mississippi River’s west bank
That's because West of the Mississippi is better.

Most of Iberville is west of most of Ascension. Both parishes have area on both sides the river.

Look at the map, there is part of Ascension that is West of Iberville.
