It truly blows my mind that the North Carolina stuff got sorta washed under the rug and the donations were limited and yet a mega rich area is devastated and the donations are pouring in.

Massive media coverage, tons of federal help

I don’t understand all that

I think the elites are a lot closer to late 1700s than they think.

That being said, homes are more than walls and monetary values, they contain treasured memories, important documents, and the idea of safety. When my parents lost their home in the flood, the thing thing that got my mom more than anything else was the loss of her wedding album.

The overwhelming majority of the people that have lost everything are just regular folk that have worked hard to live in a nice area, or bought years ago when things were reasonable.

When you get older and go through hard parts of life, your perspective may change.

Judging those folks by the actions and words of some celebrity residents is no different than the rest of the country judging Louisiana folk by the actions of "Lootie" after Katrina.

I know a 35 year old from Louisiana living out there that had to evacuate. She has never had a job and lives off her parents and always complains about how hard life, smokes weed all day and pretending to be important. Her politics are exactly what a rich democrat out of touch with reality are aligned with.

Feel sorry, kind of, not really. not sorry for not feeling bad either.

It’s a tragedy no matter who it’s happening to.

If we went house by house and found folks who own 8 more homes like that, sure, maybe don’t cry for the home owner.

But it’s still a huge loss and in total, a terrible thing.

The price of building materials will skyrocket in the area due to supply and demand. The sad part is the celebrities have the money to pay for the materials to rebuild their mega mansions that use enough lumber to build 4-5 normal size houses. Leaving not much left for the normal folks to recover.

Celebrities preach about waste, excess and conservation. But they’ll readily rebuild their 12000sq ft mega mansions and not bat an eye.

I get your point but do you think elites and celebrities give a shite about the common middle class?

I think OP was inferring that celebs can recover from this and it’s a different story for regular locals. Hence the lack of sympathy for celebs.

If you’re worth $15 million and have $10 million of it in your uninsured house, no, I don’t feel bad for you, for more than one reason. It’s bad that you’re going through a rough patch, but maybe valuable lessons will come from this.

Maybe it’s because I doubt any of these folks blinked an eye when Harvey flooded Houston or Katrina devastated NOLA or Laura mowed over Lake Charles and SW LA.
Well does your virtue separate you from those assholes, or are you the same as them?

Have you considered that maybe you're projecting your own shitty views on people that you don't know but are confident you don't agree with on anything?

I remember comments on national message boards by Californians, showing little or no sympathy for people whose lives and homes were destroyed by hurricanes.

Like you, I struggle with it sometimes, but when I think of people I personally know who live there, it snaps me back to reality and into an empathy mode.

If we do not love those who have been crappy to us, we slip into that dark hole that we may not be able to crawl out of.

I sympathize. Watching them lose everything sucks. It really does. Its hard not to feel shitty about it. No one, even retard evil libtard celebrities shouldn't have to go through that.

I have family and friends in Los Angeles. Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and I have friends there from my job.

I am thankful that my family members are doing okay. I am worried about a friend who lives in Santa Monica who is not rich, but he definitely has a good job who makes six figures. He's a good guy and friend and I hope his home and him are okay.

It's not all rich people who are losing their homes. Interesting my family there has told me "it's the rich people" who are getting the worst of it.
