Yea. There is a lot of detail that hasn't been presented to us.

No, but many sportsbooks have caps on payouts for certain kinds of wagers in their policy. Absent any details on this gentleman's wager, amounts, betting lines, etc. there's no way to determine exactly what the casino's obligation for payout.

He's just including his bet in the total payout. But you are right, he didn't "win" that much.

Sounds a lot like Nicky Santoro's system from the movie, Casino:
[quote]he had a fool-proof scheme, all right. It wasn't very scientific but it worked. When he won, he collected. When he lost, he told the bookies to go frick themselves. What were they gonna do? Muscle Nicky? Nicky was the muscle.

Some of the fine print on those sports books are that for high odds payouts they will only pay up to like $10000 or $20000. It’s a scam.
Placed the bet online it looked like. They posted his ticket on instagram. If that was the case a max bet would’ve been in place and he never would have been able to place the bet in the first place if that were the case.

100% no idea what basis they’re not paying him out on

ETA and as far as odds it couldn’t be more straightforward ticket and hardly lucky at all. It was just Celtics to win NBA championship +220 or something. He bet around $150k and total payout was $500k

If that's the case they shouldn't be able to take bets that pay out greater than their cap

Doing otherwhise can't be legal

It was +250. Not exactly “long odds payout”.

Getting paid for the Celtics winning wouldn’t have been long odds. Getting paid should the Mavs have upset them? That’s different, especially considering they surged late to go from the play in to a 5th seed.

Gambling is not supposed to be fair. That’s the point.

His bet was placed Feb 24 (right after the all star break) for the Celtics to win the championship. Celtics had the best record in the league at the break, so it wasn’t exactly a longshot to bet on them going on to win it all. +250 odds

Almost like you shouldn’t go to casinos. Gambling is trashy.
