I recently stumbled upon this. I was familiar with the R. Budd Dwyer video, but this incident was prior to that one. It is some chilling shite to hear the audio.

No

How about a link to explain what you are talking about?

There is audio?

I thought this was one of the like 10 clips of death that were legitimately out of the public domain (like Grizzly Man, Steve Irwin, etc.)

No but I do remember R. Budd Dwyer shooting himself. I lived in Pittsburgh at the time and watched it live. Blood was spurting like a fountain.

News anchor shot herself live on TV.

It's one of the few things that are legitimately locked away from the public domain and have become internet legends.

No, Im too young.

BUT going by her wikipedia page, its definitely ahead of its time. We now see a lot more young adults that have this fear even in our well-connected time. The men have been branded angry incels and the women have been branded childless cat ladies but the fear of being alone is incredibly rooted in society now. It might even get worse before it ever gets better.

Sure - there was video at one point and I vaguely remember seeing it in some documentary/mini-documentary about the incident. Now, the video wasn't all the way through (or was completely blurred out at the critical time), but there is certainly audio:

I can't say, conclusively, that the shot included is the actual sound from the actual incident, but everything about her news report up through her shift to her brief monologue all appears authentic. If a reproduction, it is an excellent one.

(ETA: I also vaguely remember the controversy over whether or it this incident inspired the similar incident in the film Network, but the timing makes it almost certainly so, even if only subconsciously.)

Link to suspected audio.

The video is from a movie about her.

Not a suicide on live TV, but looking up Christine Chubbuck provided an “also read” link to the double murder of a reporter and her cameraman while doing a live report.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murders_of_Alison_Parker_and_Adam_Ward

The murderer was an ex employee and later committed suicide on the run from cops, but uploaded a video to twitter he filmed of murders before killing himself. I can’t remember if the live news broadcast had a copy uploaded anywhere.

Yes, the movie "Christine" is pretty good and covers most of her life. Her suicide is reenacted verbatim. I happened to catch it on streaming a few months ago.

The real tape has never been released and the videos online are all fakes.

I watched that Budd Dwyer video many years ago and immediately regretted it, one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen.

There was a long thread about that on here. I remember how crazy the video was and how many people thought it was fake because neither the cameraman nor the reporter noticed this dude walk up and point a gun at them. But they were both totally engaged with the story and it makes sense that they wouldn’t notice.

Shooter’s video. NSFW

I remember the Vester Flanagan murders. I remember when that news broke in the morning and following that thread closely. Very wild murder caught on tape. I’m not sure if the original video is still out there. It was all over Twitter that morning.

I wish very much I had read this. Took me down a rabbit hole of song lyrics that mention Dwyer. The lyrics to Orange Juice Jones are some strange lyrics.

I could be wrong, but I think the charges against Dwyer turned out to be untrue.

I believe he committed suicide to save his pension and other benefits for his family.

I think he was guilty, but you are probably correct on why he did it.

He was actually convicted not just charged, and a couple of attempts after his suicide to overturn verdict and to get a new trial both failed. His suicide was a couple of days before his sentencing was to take place which had he been sentenced his pension wouldn’t be paid and also death benefits wouldn’t have been paid to his family (also could have been removed from office with sentencing).
