If I remember correctly the only things I needed extra was social security card and birth certificate.
But I'd double check that. Think I brought my passport too.

Google be saying:
All applicants for initial issuance of a REAL ID driver's license or identification card must provide proof of the following:
Identity
Evidence of lawful status in the United States
Date of birth
Social security number
Two (2) proofs of principal residence
As for what docs establish each, use the LOUIE REAL ID online questionnaire to see exactly what LA OMV says you need. LINK

I had to get one and the process was a pain. I had to do the rectal exam twice. Neither time was enjoyable

Yes, there is a list on their DMV.
If I remember, I had a passport and birth certificate, and two proofs of address (power bill and internet).

Note that a notarized copy of birth certificate is not sufficient(at least not when I got it). I had to go to clerk of courts office to get an “original”.

In Mississippi, my regular DL transitioned to a Real ID upon renewal.
Probably not the case for first-time DL.

It’s illegal and unconstitutional for the government to prevent you from flying WITHIN the US, regardless of whether you have a standard ID, a ‘Real ID’, or nothing.
Once this ‘Real ID’ foolishness goes into effect, you will still be able to use your passport instead of it. Assuming you have a valid passport, there is no need to ever get a ‘Real ID’.

Unless you want to carry your passport with you all the time. When it goes into effect, you will also need Real ID to enter government buildings.

Real ID is a joke they just keep pushing the deadline back. This was put into effect when George Bush was President.

Carrying a passport seems like a rather poor solution…
With that said, for my frequent travel baws, your Global Entry ID card is considered Real ID for domestic travel.
