Business Report

Didn’t expect a book store to be expanding and opening new locations in 2025, but B&N is doing that across the country. Livingston Parish even has one now.

I suspect the large store in Citiplace with the unnecessary music center upstairs will shut down and move to the Town Center location. When that location opened, people still bought CD’s.

I havent bought a book in years. I check everything I want out from library

Why the resurgence in B&N?

Is this some basic bitch white woman fad where bookstores and reading are cool?

They’ve evolved. It’s as much a toy, gift, music store as it is book store now. Plus it’s a place to study and grab a coffee.

Barnes & Noble's recent resurgence is largely attributed to a shift in business strategy under new leadership, including CEO James Daunt, which focused on revitalizing the in-store experience, prioritizing customer preferences over aggressive promotions, and capitalizing on a renewed interest in physical books during the pandemic, allowing them to open new stores in opportune locations at lower costs; essentially bringing back the "community feel" of a bookstore while adapting to modern consumer habits.

I've read that kids now have a desire for book and mortar retailers where they can actually visit and socialize with friends. Results of being locked down for two years.

Yeah they will probably drop the “booksellers” in their branding.

They don’t need massive stores anymore with huge amount of space devoted to music. They can go into smaller, more affordable spaces in places like Juban Crossing. Which is why the giant free standing Citiplace store will probably turn into an office building when B&N moves to Town Center.

This. Also the Starbucks-type café draws in the younger females.

Somebody's got to fill in the blanks we're creating in our public libraries.

It's also the safest place to be during a riot. Nobody is looting a Barnes and Noble.

I think it’s cool that they figured out how to be successful with smaller, more numerous stores.

Baton Rouge area used to have just one (the big one at Citiplace). Now there are 4 including the one at LSU I’m sure Prarieville will get one at some point too.

They may be boycotting it because they can't control what books are sold.

Y'all need to check out the 2nd and Charles used store in BR. They sell everything from books, games, music equipment, records, CD's, etc. Pretty cool store with really good pricing.
You can also sell your old stuff there as well.

They sell more than books.

They also sell movies, music and all those little toys and trinkets.

Basically, if you are someone that likes to own physical stuff, it's still a happening place.
