I smashed my finger pretty good today and it’s all blue, red, and swollen around the tip and under the nail. I don’t think it’s broken but holy hell it still hurts immensely 10 hours later and is only getting worse. I’m thinking if I drain it, it’ll get better. Is this best done by a doctor or myself? I’ve never done that before but I know it can obviously be done, I just don’t know the best way to do it myself. Anyone have tips for my tip?

Open a paper clip, heat one end with a lighter, use it to poke a hole through the nail

Heat up a needle and push the tip down on the nail it will melt through the fingernail making a small hole to relieve the pressure. Wont hurt

I’ve known people to drill a hole in the nail.

I’ve never done anything. The nail either grows out or falls off.

Heat a needle with a lighter. Jab it in there. Don’t point it at your face as it might come out under pressure.

Use a small drill bit to make a small hole right above the abscess to drain. Clean it with alcohol first. just spin it between you thumb and fingers.. Dont use the drill.

You can also heat up a needle... I dont do that method but lots of people do.

The drill bit is slower but works just as well.

Just remove the underlying problem: cut your hand off.

Yeah just keep rubbin it. Eventually you’ll have a fluid discharge and the swelling will subside

I smashed mine a few month ago. Was going to drill it until I read that you pretty much guarantee an infection and nail falling off.

Did nothing. Nail has pretty much grown all the way with no issues now.

Thanks for the clarification there

I actually like heated needle method. I think I’ll try that.

Watch out for the spray of blood when that baby melts through.

You laugh, but there is a reason medications have very specific instructions. People do the stupidest things, not saying you would but someone might read my post and bust out the drill.
