Boiled Peanuts - Do you eat the shell?

Fall is the best time of the year. We have football, hunting, and fresh boiled peanuts. A gallon bag of all that spicy salty deliciousness at a tailgate is almost as good as crawfish season. I like them with a hint of crab boil. We have a debate in the office this morning on whether you should or shouldn't eat the peanuts whole.

I chew on the shell if they're good and salty, then spit them out.

Absolutely love boiled peanuts. Memories of my Mom making them every year as we welcomed football season to our house. Also added the crab boil to hers. Alzheimer’s robbed her of all that way too early in life.

FYI, you're not going to get jacked drinking that stuff. I get drinking it with bourbon/rum, etc. on occasion but since you're trying to get yoked I'd stick with water for the most part. JMO

The smaller immature shells, called “pops” in some places, are edible. Otherwise, eat the nut, spit out the shells.
