It can be argued that they're all "pro chasers". They're all after content, one way or another. Who is going to pick and choose who gets to chase a storm?

Meanwhile, these are the only ones trying to see anything with that storm:

Oh, and the one dot in the notch.

There are also veterans out there making it dangerous as well as some of whom have no problem giving bad/false reports on storms

That’s fitting for Iowa. About as boring and drab as possible

Agree but not sure how you regulate it. You could try licensing and such but anyone with a car and phone with a weather app could chase, and simply tell authorities they’re a regular driver heading to such and such and you can’t prove they’re chasing storms.

Outside of shutting down highways in higher risk regions to emergency vehicles and professional chasers only in not sure what you could do. You’d have to close all businesses in that region and patrol the highways. Would be difficult and cause a lot of backlash every time a severe outbreak doesn’t materialize to the hype

I want to say that it will take another El Reno 2013 to thin out some of the stupidity, but I don't think that would even really slow it down all that much.

LINK
Link has some drone video from Omaha and Elkton (? sp) and I was surprised to see water still in the above the ground swimming pools surrouned by destroyed homes.

Could a swimming pool only four feet deep be a safe place of last resort if a tornado is aiming at your home?

I'd throw on a snorkel and hope for the best depending on the storm. Of course, there's always the chance of debris being blown into the pool and you getting trapped and drowning.

With the overwhelming majority of tornadoes (barring access to a shelter or safe room) you are safest in an interior room, on the lowest floor, away from windows. Through a high end EF3 you're going to ride it out without major injury, it happens all the time. Even if the roof comes off, people make it out without serious injury all the time. When you get into violent tornadoes, EF4, you can still survive it, but you're much more likely to have serious injury. When you talk about high end EF5 tornadoes, you're not likely to survive most of them if you're above ground. People do survive, and there are miraculous stories out there, but it is a crap shoot (or a God/fate thing).

I honestly don’t know the answer but something will have to be done at some point.

Perhaps a permit costing $250. And issued a Chaser magnetic sign put on top of vehicle. Take money and use to enhance enforcement maybe paying off duty officers?

Paying chasers have video constantly rolling so would have video evidence of non paying chasers.

I know thats out there and won’t work as I detailed but something has to be done. Offenders could be required to attend a 4 hour tornado chasing safety course which can be helpful to teach them. It would be easy to tell if they had reasons to be i the chase area.

I’m jjst throwing stuff out there rather than just complain even if it won’t work.

You could pass a law that news stations and social media platforms can’t monetize footage from non licensed chasers. Only can use footage from pros, or people who filmed from their own home/property

Take away the incentive. You’ll still get some who do it for thrills, but it’ll cull some of them looking to create content for profit

Basically impossible

In rare situations where you had the lead time/resources police could try shutting down certain roads completely but then you have zero chasers which means less reports + what happens if the police are wrong about where the tornado is going or it turns and now people die bc of said blockage?

I know tornadoes have hit catfish farms here and dropped fish in towns before so I dunno. But those ponds are raised levees, not dug down like a ditch or inground pool. If it’s an inground pool I think it’s better than nothing, but that would mean you’re near a home and assuming it’s sturdy built you’d be better off in an interior room and covering your head.

I just don't think you'd get much revenue doing this. I think there MIGHT be 20 guys who pay it, that's not gonna amount to much revenue

Lots of flaws with this but again, how do you determine who is a "pro" vs who isn't? Obviously there are some clear amateurs but there's others where the lines hard to draw

Yes, let’s have the government step in and charge more fees for something. Sounds like a great idea. A state chasing license in every state and a federal license too!

Chasing vehicle safety standards would soon follow then compliance standards then climate change/mpg standards, etc., etc. Regulate the crowd down to a more favorable size.
