Bit of a tire expert here. Those aren't Soviet-era heavy truck radials. Chinese military tires, and I believe specifically the Yellow Sea YS20. This is a tire I first encountered in Somalia and Sudan; it's a bad Chinese copy of the excellent Michelin XZL military tire design.

Heard a similar story with Russia's dependence on shoddy Chinese comms equipment.

They aren’t buying recalled Firestone tires?

This is true of literally everything made in China. It’s a bad copy of something someone else made. They can’t design anything more elaborate than an egg roll.

It’s actually very plausible. You can buy almost brand new US military tires online very cheap. They go by the date the tire was made, and not the tread ware or things like that.

My old 4Runner hardly got used for about 3 years, and had brand new tires on it. I tuned it up, and started driving more often, and within 3 weeks had to replace all 4 tires.

Delaying the offensive until after the Olympics means a lot of frozen ground has thawed. Trucks probably can't get around stalled vehicles ahead of them.

Talk of a bridge being blown up. Probably a more likely reason.

It’s the land of Sun Tzu and gunpowder, yet Europe invented the gun.

What a strange country

That and a blown bridge.

I'm normally a tire snob, but an unfortunate series of events (plus supply chain issues and looming deadlines) has me driving around on a set of "Landsail 588 UHPs." (Not to be confused with "Landwhales.")

I am deeply uneasy about this development.

"Yuri, check the tire! We have to get to Kiev before nightfall!"

"Da, comrade commander!"
