if I can't look down the beach and see a canopy of SEC tents, then I don't wanna be there

Destin has nicer beaches, but it such a pain in the arse getting anywhere in that town during peak season. Geography has a lot to do with that, but still. Way too crowded for me.

I'm fine with Ft Morgan or St George Island.

I don't.

Alabama is a drive-thru state. I drive through it to get to Florida.

1. Closer to home Only real advantage
2. Flora-Bama Trashy Dive that was a lot more fun in the 80s
2 better condos Condos are condos, watch HGTV and you can do anything with a condo
3. Less traffic Traffic sucks both places
4. Good restaurants (Destin wins but OBA not bad). Only a couple at OBA but not too impressed with Destin

Beaches are nicer in Destin and Orange Beach long way out to go fishing

$6? ..... you should be paying a $20 toll, each way, for the privilige of driving through our State on the way to the beaches that your demand for cheap condos has ruined.

No offense to OB, but Destin is waaaaaay nicer than OB

Not really. Maybe in the 90s. Destin is a crowded mess now to me.

We make this trip often for long weekends. Don’t really consider it vacation, and I’ve never been one to stay in a “GD bubble”, but I understand the sentiment. I’d recommend for families that make the gulf beaches their primary vacation, to eat the additional drive. But for my purposes, this is what I prefer.

Pensacola and orange beach are the same drive time from BR.

If its destin vs orange beach, I'll take the additional 45-60mins for better restaurants, whiter sands, clearer water.

Absolutely. No contest these days. I have been going to Destin since the 70s and have family in SanDestin and really grew up there during summers through the 90s.

Also grew up vacationing in OB/GS.

If I lived in Louisiana still, it would be no contest, due to proximity.

From Atlanta, we prefer Cape San Blas over all. I've been doing a guy's trip since law school, and that's Fort Walton, which is far more enjoyable these days than Destin or most of 30A.

I haven't been in over a decade, but I saw quite a lot of WI, IL, and MI folks when I was younger.

Meh. Sometimes we go for just a short trip and it’s with it to be and hour to 1.5 hours closer to Nola.

I mean, I'm glad Orange Beach exists. It's like a vacation trash valve, keeping many of the poors out of Destin. But, no way is it a better that Walton County.

Is that because you're from Louisiana and you prefer brown water to blue / green.
