My dishwasher started leaking recently and I was able to trace the problem to a few small holes in the ribbed plastic drain hose. It looks kind of like this.

My question is can I just seal the holes in the hose rather than replacing the hose? If so what should I use? It looked like the hole was about 1/4 inch break in the ribbing.

Compare cost of hose to cost of possible water damage in home

Tough decision, man. You could possibly be out of $3 you didn't need to spend.

Replace it. Repair shops around town have them but at 4X the price. It is a simple part you can dig up online.

PS. Don't put rat/mouse poison down. It does kill them but it dehydrates them in the process and they seek out sources of moisture. They go after drain hoses and gnaw holes in them.

That's not the math at play here. I youtubed the replacement process and it involves disassembling the dishwasher to a level that I'm not comfortable with. I've got no problem paying a guy to fix it, but I was just wondering if some silicone sealant would get the job done.

man i just figured out a leak in mind. Must have leaked for two months or so before i discovered it. I open up the doors to under the sink and besides the water, i see mouse\rat droppings all over the place. I never notice it because i keep grocery bags down there.

I fixed the problem, cleaned up the mess, and have two traps down there. THey have been there since discovering this and nothing.

I stayed up until 2 cleaning up water in my house. Drain hose from brand new washer popped off. Faulty spring clamp. Change your hose because cleaning up water is a bitch.

It would get the job done for a while even if done perfectly. It is cheaper to do things right once than to do it over and over again. Replace the damn thing or you will back here asking why silicone sealant failed?

Is it an older Dishwasher? My drain line connects at the bottom of the DW and has a couple guides before running up into the disposal. All you have to do is pull the DW out and reach under.

Save yourself the headache and spend a few extra dollars on a nicer hose.
