You don't generally see this kind of behavior in a major appliance
quote:

A Florida family is grateful to be alive after they say their refrigerator exploded inside their home Saturday morning.
quote:

The force was so powerful it caused significant damage in several rooms. Luckily, neighbor Joshua Perez heard the explosion and ran inside to help the family get out safely.
quote:

“I was in my room, I was asleep and I just heard the bang,” Mark Ligondie said. Ligondie quickly ran from his bedroom to the kitchen where moments before his parents' refrigerator in the West Palm Beach, Florida home exploded.
quote:

The family's 4-month-old Whirlpool refrigerator was in pieces, scattered throughout the kitchen and surrounding rooms.

Can you imagine being in the living room when that happened and basically having a claymore go off in the kitchen in the next room.

I've never heard of maintenance for a fridge besides changing the water filter and cleaning the ice tray every now and then.

So you’re not supposed to store gasoline in the refrigerator? I did not know that.

There has to be more to this than is being reported. What would cause a fridge to explode? The force needed to damage all the items in the kitchen was insane.

Yep, no doubt and of course it's Florida so I'm sure it is a lot more.

What should happen: Whirlpool contacts the family, sends a couple of engineers down to determine the cause, if at fault Whirlpool pays to replace fridge and fix house. Case closed.

What will happen: Family will get sucked in by some lawyer that promises them millions. Whirlpool in-house counsel will advise the company to adopt a defensive legal posture. Lawsuit filed, lawyers on both sides bill thousands of hours. Lawyers eventually agree to settle with NDA in place. Years after incident family finally receives a third of what damages cost, their homeowners pays the rest but their rates skyrocket. Lawyers on all sides laugh at both parties on the golf course while pocketing millions.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if that happened.
