Florida Man Whines About His Ruined Reputation After Pulling Gun On Uber Driver

As it turned out, the 13-year-old snuck out of the house Saturday night and took an Uber to Pensacola, about 30 minutes away. When he discovered she’d snuck out, he reportedly called both the Santa Rosa County and Escambia County sheriff’s offices, but didn’t get much help from either department. So when she got back home, he made the only logical decision and pulled a gun on the completely innocent Uber driver.

He also really wants people to know he’s a veteran, saying, “I served 31 years, I was an Army doctor, I trained as a Navy flight surgeon, I served with the 7th Special Forces Group, I served with the 160th. I served six tours.” That, of course, only makes things worse since he’s not some yokel who’s never been taught the rules of firearm safety or when it’s appropriate to pull a gun on someone.
“The vast majority of this story has not been presented to the public whatsoever. And the vast majority of this is related to parental rights,” he said, later adding, “In this country, you’re innocent until proven guilty. If it goes to trial, I look forward to it because I want to get 12 moms and dads on that jury and judge if what I did was fair — because I called for law enforcement, and I didn’t get them.”

to be fair, a 13 year old probably should be allowed to uber that way. he overreacted but that's a terrible position to be in.

Sounds like his paranoia is going to get him some jail time or at the very least, a lot lighter in the wallet

If I were an Uber driver, I sure as shite wouldn’t pick up a 13 year old girl who was out alone on a Saturday night. Obviously not a normal situation. I wouldn’t leave them alone either until a parent picked them up or made contact with law enforcement.

It’s a bad look, but the one thing I understand that he said was that the car wasn’t marked as an Uber driver. So in his mind this was some dude with his 13 year old daughter in the car. Pulling the gun on him was a little much, but still a tough situation to deal with.

He saw his daughter pull up in a car, sitting in the back seat, and his first impression was "She's being sex-trafficked by fentanyl addicted child-slavers!"? I could MAYBE understand if he saw them driving away, but what kind of kidnapper casually pulls up to the house and let's the girl get out of the back on her own? There's no way he doesn't know what Uber is, and I'm pretty positive the driver was telling him that's what he was. This guy was on drugs, or is mentally unfit to own firearms.

He is seeking sympathy and empathy for himself but shows none for the driver he traumatized. Where is the apology for the driver who did nothing wrong? Being a concerned parent doesn't make it OK to hurt others.
He insisted on people knowing he is a veteran but he should have also insisted that an apology make it into the interview.

That gives him the right to pull a loaded gun and assault an innocent Uber driver? All feeling sorry for himself never mind he terrorized the Uber driver. He's an a-hole who serves to face the consequences

I'm not sure I would even consider this an over-reaction. You wake up to find your 13yr old missing from her room, call the police, they do nothing, but then she shows up later with some stranger just dropping her off?
It sucks for both the driver and the father, but when you strip away all the pearl-clutching it comes down to this all being the girl's fault for sneaking out in the first place. None of this happens had she not done that.

No dude, it's related to you not controlling your child, pulling a firearm on an unarmed man, and forcing him to lie facedown on your driveway while you hold a gun to his head so you can take pics of his license. Driver must have been shitting himself. He's gonna be fricked up for a long while after this.

I can understand the emotions that might have led to this reaction from the father, but I think it’s pretty objectively an over-reaction.
I get that he’s upset about his daughter sneaking out, but that doesn’t give him the right to pull the guy who brought her home out of his car at gunpoint and make him lie face down on the road while searching him. Even if the driver had been a friend of the daughter rather than an Uber driver, it would still have likely amounted to false imprisonment and assault.
Unless there are some serious omissions from the story right now, it looks to me like he fricked up and is paying the consequences.
