Forbes today released its 39th annual World’s Billionaires list, the definitive ranking of the world’s richest people. Wealth has surged this year in ways we’ve never seen. This year’s list features 3,028 billionaires, the most since the list’s inception in 1987. The world’s wealthiest people are collectively worth a record-breaking $16.1 trillion. A record 15 people worldwide now have 12-figure fortunes, up from 14 last year and zero in 2017.
Elon Musk dethrones French luxury goods titan Bernard Arnault for the top spot, as Musk’s net worth grew by 75% to an estimated $342 billion. His jump in wealth follows big new valuations of xAI and SpaceX, and a 12-month rise in Tesla stock, despite the recent selloff. Musk is the first person to reach the $300 billion mark.
Mark Zuckerberg follows Musk, in the No. 2 spot with an estimated net worth of $216 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos at No. 3 ($215 billion), Larry Ellison at No. 4 ($192 billion) and Bernard Arnault & family ($178 billion) rounding out the top five.
Key Highlights:
Newcomers: The 2025 ranking features 288 newcomers, including musician Bruce Springsteen, Chipotle founder Steve Ells, Alphabet/Google CEO Sundar Pichai, actor and former CA governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Scale AI cofounder Alexandr Wang, the youngest self-made billionaire in the world, at age 28.
Globally: The United States has more billionaires than any other country, now boasting a record 902 on the list, worth a combined $6.75 trillion. China follows, with 450 billionaires, while India comes in third, with 205.
The $100 Billion Club: A record 15 people worldwide now have 12-figure fortunes, up from 14 last year and zero in 2017. This elite group is worth $2.4 trillion in all, meaning just 0.5% of the world’s 3,028 billionaires hold approximately 15% of all billionaire wealth.

Contrary to his blue-collar Americana background, musician Bruce Springsteen ($1.2 billion) now sits among the world’s wealthiest class. His 21 studio albums, ten live albums and seven EPs have sold a combined 140 million copies across the globe. In 2021, Springsteen sold his music catalog to his longtime label Sony for a (pretax) lump sum of around $500 million.
Movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger ($1.1 billion) pocketed hundreds of millions of dollars from the 50 movies he has starred in over the past several decades. He has also invested in commercial real estate, private equity and the stock market. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld ($1.1 billion) is benefitting from a $500 million deal for Netflix to show his eponymous sitcom over five years —and he’s still raking in millions from standup shows and other streaming projects.
Only 15% of the new billionaires on this year’s list are women, and nearly two-thirds of them inherited their wealth. The richest exception: 71-year-old Barbara Banke, who cofounded Jackson Family Wines, known for its Kendall-Jackson wines from Sonoma, with her late husband Jess Jackson (d. 2011).
Technology was the most popular field for new billionaires, with 46 building fortunes in the industry. China’s Hao Tang ($4.3 billion) is the richest newcomer from the sector, thanks to an early investment in marketing software and mobile game maker AppLovin, whose shares have soared by more than 300% over the past year. Other notable new tech billionaires include Texan Ben Lamm ($3.7 billion), whose startup Colossal Biosciences is trying to resurrect the woolly mammoth, as well as Dario Amodei ($1.2 billion) and all six of his Anthropic cofounders, who raised $3.5 billion for their AI startup at a $61.5 billion valuation in March.

It always amazes me that the guy selling $2000 handbags is up there with the founders of Tesla, Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc...

GOP peeled off a single billionaire, two if you include Trump himself, and Dems have screamed about oligarchy ever since. It's really not about the money though, it's the fact that he bought a popular social media site and they can no longer suppress the next Hunter Biden laptop story like Dorsey and Zuck did.
