For those that don’t know, the high pressure fuel pump on a lot of duramax’s was prone to blowing and sending shrapnel through the entire fuel system. Mine did it and it was an $11,000 fix. They didn’t replace it with the high pressure pump, rather a low pressure pump that works, but reduced fuel mileage about 4mpg.

A firm filed suit against them and won, now Gm has to pay out between 6700 and 12k to those who were affected. The problem is that it is only customers in 7 states which LA isn’t one of.

How do they get away with only paying those few customers and screwing the rest of us?

Does anyone have editorial staff? They say 7 states but only list 6. What am I missing?

Because those are the only states that were part of the suit. There is probably other pending litigation in other states.

GMC to pay out on CP4 lawsuit

GM stopped using them abruptly about 10 years ago and went back to an older, less efficient but more simple design. They also refused to have them in their newer 3.0L I-6 Duramax. They clearly knew there was a problem. If they aren't covering the replacement and repair, it's not because they are unaware of an issue. So these lawsuits are IMO justified.

When these Bosch CP4 injectors fail, metal shavings end up in the high pressure fuel system and it breaks a lot of things along the way.

Here are a list of vehicles that also used these injectors.

2011-2023 Ford 6.7-liter Powerstroke
2018-2021 Ford 3.0-liter Powerstroke
2011-2016 GM Duramax 6.6-liter LML/LGH
2019-2020 Ram 6.7-liter Cummins
2014-2023 Ram/Jeep 3.0L EcoDiesel
2016-2019 Nissan Titan XD 5.0-liter Cummins

True although they were getting so much fire on social media for it that Toyota had to do something big to calm people down. And the impacted engines were in EVERY one of their full sized trucks for a few years and they are still under the hood of every new Tundra.

By contrast - not all GM trucks use diesel motors, and not all of those diesel motors had CP4 injectors.

GM quietly redesigned their engines with a different injector system in 2016....then pretended there never was an issue unless it failed under a factory warranty. That's proof that they knew about the problem. Why else would they switch back to an older, less efficient part?

I understand that those were the states in the suit, but it seems like that would establish a precedent that would make the rest of the states a cake walk in the courts to win as well. As a law firm, why would you leave 43 other states worth of potential victims and payouts on the table?

It will be interesting to see if Ford and Ram end up in the same boat. I’ve had two with the CP4, and fingers crossed no issues, but it really is a ticking time bomb.

Everybody with a modicum of common rail diesel engine knowledge knows the Bosch CP4 fuel pump is a heap of shite and it STILL finds its way onto new engine designs.

It's a heap of shite, but it's the quietest one, so it gets used. Ford's still using it. Cummins tried it in 2019.
