I love that 6.2, so this is poor news. Problem affects the 5.3, spinning mains, possibly related to AFM.

The GM 6.2L engine, commonly found in Chevrolet and GMC trucks, is known to have issues including sudden engine failure, lifter problems, power loss, knocking sounds, and stalling, often attributed to manufacturing defects and the use of cylinder deactivation technology (Dynamic Fuel Management) which can lead to issues with the lifters when cylinders deactivate and reactivate; this can result in expensive engine repairs and is currently under investigation by the NHTSA due to numerous complaints about unexpected engine failures.

Replacement engine ia the only solution; looks 2019 and up...

Glad my 2024 has the 3.0 Duramax. It is not without fault but at least they aren't known for eating lifters and spinning bearings.

If Trump gets rid of this stupid shite that automakers force upon consumers so that they can meet some pie in the sky fuel savings mandate, I'd be willing to vote him in as emperor for life.

There are no reliable engines being made on par with what we saw pre-Covid due to the CAFE changes imposed by the Biden admin.

They were all rushed out and traded reliability for fuel efficiency.

One of the (older) performance 6.2L is the way to go. No AFM garbage.

We are looking to get my wife a car and I am really tempted to just wait a couple of years to see if the industry responds with something that is workable for us. There are way too many problems with post-covid vehicles

Recommended at 150k or 200k miles depending on the LM2 or LZO. I’d bet they are conservative with those recommendations too, though I wouldn’t chance it.

Every one of these reports I see (from all manufacturers) makes me appreciate my 19 year old Tundra even more.

And nobody voted for this shite…it’s mandates by beaurocrats over bullshite reasons.

Let the manufacturers make what sells.

True. Same for the 5.3. That engine has been around forever and been reliable until all this AFM stuff. I have the 5.3 in 2018 Tahoe and considering having the AFM disabled.

Yep, happened Friday before last to our 2023 Surburban with 42k miles. Lost engine at 75mph on I-10 in Houston with no prior issue whatsoever. Had it towed to Knapp Chevrolet and mechanic said he has to replace 4-5 engines per month in the 1500 platform. Lowest mileage replacement was 4,000 miles on a 6.2.

I’m holding.

The current vehicles are overpriced and not road proven.

My hope is that Trump will walk back the changes so the pre-Covid engines can be brought back as an option.

They have absolutely fricked up the 5.3. It was one of the best and most reliable engines and now it’s basically shite on new vehicles.

Deactivating it on the computer doesn't ultimately solve your problem. You still have shite lifters. Ask me how I know. I've had to replace the lifters/cam in my 08 Silverado(did it myself) and the whole engine let go on my wifes 2015 Escalade.
