Solid seems boring but the Mrs. doesn't like any design.

No. Pleats are back in, but trend toward single pleats, and the pants should still be tailored and not wide legged or baggy.

Depends on the cut of the suit.

Something like this is a big NOPE:

Nothing wrong, out of style or bad about pleats with an Anglo cut suit, they should not be part of a Continental cut suit, however. Continental cut suits have a limited body shape that they look good on.

To the OP windowpane gray suits are essentially always in style. Pin/pencil stripes tend to look better and are more formal than chalk stripes which take a bit of style to wear well. In the summer I prefer a lighter gray Glen plaid suit with a single colored thread. I particularly like them with red paired with a red and silver tie. There is a noble name for the fabric but it escapes me right now.

It's hard to pull off without looking like you're cosplaying an early 20th C movie star/ royal. Unless you have a work/ social life in which you wear suits >4 times a week, in which case you can make it work if the suit fits well. Your only suit should definitely not be a gray windowpane.

If your work-out and grooming game is tight enough, you can get away with any suit or no suit.

Step up your games brah-
