Guy says park rangers said it's never been reported and there was no other wreckage around the area. Poster claim the date on the wheel is 1948.

Small planes go down sometimes. I bet in 1948 it could happen and go unreported.

it's never been reported
no other wreckage around the area
the date on the wheel is 1948

I'm no detective, but that's a Goodyear.

Based on the "serial no" in the photo, it isn't a serial killer.

From the title I expected this

But it looks like a guy found a wheel that might have fallen off a passing plane?

That’s gotta be Amelia Earhart’s plane. Second guess, obviously, is MH370.

Some autistic motherfricker on reddit claims it's a port main landing gear leg from a North American Navion. The tire was manufactured from 1947- 62.

Leading theory it's from a GA crash that occurred in 1990. May have clipped some trees and knocked off the landing gear and crashed some distance away.

My dad owned a 1948 Navion until he died . Bought it in 1986 . Pilot had died and plane had sat idle for 12 years. My dad drove to St. Louis , took it apart , loaded it on a flatbed and drove home with it . Then he overhauled the engine ( had to send it off to get inspected by FAA and he flew it religiously until age started creeping up on him ). N4399K . I sure miss flying in that plane. Problem with the Navion … especially in the fifties when women wore dresses all the time is that their wasn’t a lady like way to get in them with the overhead canopy and no door . So turning it into a plane for the family was not a great option

my takeaway from this is that we once were capable of making tires that would survive decades exposed to the elements and not rot away to shreds
