We went there awhile when it was somewhat “popular.” Cotton-Eye Joe and line dancing were the norm.

Gen Z drinks way less (it's part of the reason breweries are going out of business left and right), are acutely aware that cameras are everywhere, and generally doesn't feel the need to physically go places when they can stay at home.

Thanks Christine Blasey Ford

No seriously Gen Z watches the news too. They don’t want to be dragged 30 years from now when they’re trying to do something big like Brett Kavanaugh and a harpie brings up what they did drinking in college

And the girls don’t really want to make the life-ruining bad decisions you make when drinking either

Why do you know so much about the Hammond Bar Scene?
Didn’t you go to LSU and State in the late 80’s early 90’s?

Pretty sure we've crossed paths somewhere in one of those places back in the day. Class of '89 here

What? No it was like 95/96.
I remember because while I was over 21 I knew a lot of ppl that got nailed for MIP a week after they could legally drink.

Nope, there was a loophole where 18 could purchase in a bar. That loophole was closed in 1995. I barely made the cutoff and many of my friends didn't . But then they got it back only to be cut off a few months later. They were pissed.

quote:

1995: De facto age raised to 21 in 1995 when loophole was closed. 1996: In 1996, briefly lowered by Louisiana Supreme Court to 18 until it reversed its decision, raising to 21 three months later.

Ohhh, I had forgotten about Monopoly’s. There was also a dive bar down the street that ran behind the Taco Bell on Thomas that we would hit. I can’t remember the name.

Oh yeah, I went there a couple of times and a fight would break out every time.

There was also a bar that the owner of Robert E Lee's opened next to that Taco Bell and across the street from Burger King. It was only open for a few months. Club Deuces or Aces. Something like that.

That was Old Baton Rouge Hwy and The Teak Lounge was back there.

Years later Jakie's was across the street

There’s no doubt. I was at SLU from spring of 1986 through fall of 1991. I had to sit out two semesters to work during that time.
