I am hearing OUTRAGEOUS price quotes for my neighbors. The highest I heard was 8k for a single tree and that doesn't include hauling away or stump grinding.

People were being billed 25k for multiple trees here after Laura.

I was quoted $600 by a local company to remove something a few weeks ago. They never showed back up and I fear they're off to SELA for the foreseeable future.

I mean, I understand supply/demand and capitalism and all that, but that is just fricked up.

I was more surprised that most of the quotes I was hearing were from large, local companies like Zeigler, not some out of town charlatans.

Definitely look for local guys. I had a local guy come put some stumps to the road way cheaper than the travelers. If the trees are posing a danger, use a pro with the proper equipment.

They have to pay out the arse for workers to go into those places in these conditions.

Straight up saw a crew working on the house of a neighbor across the street after Laura acting like some cowboys. Had some near misses on certain death. Very clearly out of town. Saw other crews training idiots on the job. Actually this led to the tree that I now need to remove (fell sometime this spring but was put in motion by the idiots last year).

I’ve had one quote to remove a large tree down in my back yard. No where near the house. $7,500 to cut, haul, grind stump. Seems excessive.

In 2011 I had a large diameter white oak fall on my house. It was $5K which was more than expected to cost. But, capitalism…..and I needed to get it off quickly to get a tarp up there. I had punctures and not a roof collapse. The tree guy pinned the tarp as well.

Welcome to the Sanctuary. I bet the prices aren't the same in Weldon Park.

It’s usually about 800-1000 a tree for a larger size.

Need to get these peoples information and turn them in for price gouging. That’s some bullshite at 8k for a tree

I don't think that prices for services count as price gouging. I think PG is typically based on retail goods being sold above a certain level of normal retail pricing. I just don't see how you can claim gouging for services. Some lawyers charge $75/hour and some charge $1500/hour

I find that hard to believe. What was it? A Sequoia?

Definitely shop around. After Gustav, I was given quotes between $4,000 and $13,000 to remove a single huge oak from my back yard. The $13,000 guy wanted to bring in a huge crane to lift the pieces out from the street.
