Anyone have this done and satisfied with the work and product? Which store and tank did you go with and how much was tank and installation cost? Looking for a natrual gas 40gal tank.

My Rheem home depot special crapped out 3 years from the date manufactured. Because I recently bought the home, I had no warranty coverage for this 3 year old unit, as their warranties are not assignable. That was fun.

I haven't, but just as an FYI, a water heater installation is very simple to diy.

it is, if you want to do it, my heaters are in the attic of a two story, I ain't into manual labor very much anymore, and of course it will only go out on you during the summer

I replaced a 40 gallon gas with a 50 gallon Rheem w/exp tank. Had a plumber do it. Took them all of 45 minutes.
You can do it yourself, if you have a soldering iron as you'll have to cut the old pipes and weld the new ones. Depending on you gas company, you may be able to take advantage of rebates, which essentially pay for the install.

As long as it's not in the attic.

That would be interesting.

Life is good when you discover that the plumber that installed the original water-heater threaded all of the connections.

You know what we need? We need a board for this type of stuff. They could call it the Home and Garden Board.

A soldering iron? You mean a torch to solder? I've fit quite a bit of copper pipe in the past and always used a gas torch.

OP, go to plumbing supply store and ask who they'd recommend. Then ask that plumber what water heater he'd prefer to install.
The companies that do work for Home Depot/Lowes typically do it cheaper. With a water heater up above everything else that you care about, the last thing you need is that thing to leak or explode and ruin all your shite.
Spend the extra $2-300.

But sucks when you realize he didn't install a union to break it loose without cutting the pipe. You never want a pipe union carrying water inside the house. Outside fine but not inside.

Not if its in the fricking attic as builders love to do these days
Luckily mine are both in a closet in garage

Water heater should run you about 450 to 600 depending on the brand and bells and whistles
350 labor
450 labor in a attic
350 labor
450 labor in a attic

I went with Home Depot on a 40 gallon tall natural gas install in the attic a few months ago. Cost me about $1600 total. Home Depot sent Central Plumbing out to do the job. The guy from Central Plumbing said that I would have saved about $300 if I would have gone directly through them.
