How Can Louisiana Enforce Card Counting Law?

This is an article from the advocate. Thought it was interesting.

Citizens denied their legal rights know they can always rely on the press.
When the downtrodden have nowhere else to turn, the crusading journalist will ride in to fight for justice.
The latest victims of oppression abandoned by the authorities are those casino patrons who are still getting kicked out for counting cards at blackjack, although it became illegal in Louisiana Aug. 1 to bar players on grounds of superior skill.
When The Advocate's heart-rending reports of this outrage appeared in November, it seemed that nothing, save a sudden access of public spiritedness, could bring the casinos to abide by the law. It did not establish penalties for violations, and State Police said that neither they nor the Louisiana Gaming Control Board had any duty to enforce it.
It doesn't matter whether your heart bleeds for card players punished for mathematical prowess, or you think perdition awaits them. Civil society is seriously undermined if we allow corporations to thumb their noses at the laws our elected representatives pass. Since the scofflaws have nothing to fear from the Gaming Board and the State Police, we must seek some other agency with a livelier respect for democratic principles.

That's because Sam Rothstein isn't running things. Maybe they need to hire a Sam Rothstein.

Didn’t think it was against the law. Only thought they could refuse service

Then you have the antithesis of the card counters... Nicky showing up plastered and getting face card after face card and telling the dealer to shove it up their arse.

Casino’s are pretty trashy tbh. States that approve gaming are pretty much saying “we’re going to extract money from dumb, poor people with no self control and line our pockets”

Didn’t know LA law on the subject.
New Jersey’s law took a different tactic. Card counting is legal but the casino has the right to lower the limits a player can bet on a hand.
If they think you’re counting cards, they could lower the limit to $1 a hand on any table you play.

If Nicky wouldn't have gotten sloppy he could probably still be running things, but between getting strung out on coke and thinking that he could strong arm anyone he wanted and didn't give a single frick who he strong armed, it was just a matter of time.
But give him credit, he was a good daddy.

How is it illegal anyway? if you aren't using any devices to assist you, its your skill against the house. What only the house can have an advantage? Total bullshite, however a respect the right for a casino to kick you out, for any reason they see fit. I just don't think there should be any legality associated with it.

It's hard to see why casinos even care. Basic card counting doesn't really do more the lower your loss unless you're playing as part of a skilled team. But as an individual it's easily detected and they can limit your bet size variation to a point where counting doesn't hurt the house at all.
A 52-48 edge is not enough to offset the enormous bankroll size edge the house has. If your edge is only 52% then eventually you'll bust due to pure luck.

There is no law against card counting.
A casino is a private business (i.e. not a government entity) so they can refuse service for anything other than protected classes.
Since card counters are not a protected class as defined by the Civil Rights Act, they don't really have a whole lot of legal options.
Pretty common sense stuff here.

is it really easy to prove someone is counting?

Maybe not prove 100% but the swings in bet size are a easy tip off for a trained dealer or pit-boss.

So...... the exact same sentiment that alcohol, tobacco, fast food, entertainment, etc etc etc have?

In your example the player does not have a 52% edge, they would have a 4% edge, approximately. A 4% edge is rarely achieved with card counting. The average edge from counting is about 1% these days.

Not only that, but a good number of them know how to count themselves.
Unless you're running a well-financed team, card counting is just a way to lose money. But with a team you can pull it off. Have a half-dozen people playing minimum bets to find a deck that is hugely positive. They signal a big fish who then swoops in for a couple of hands making enormous bets and then walks away.
Still not that hard to detect but someone who organizes such a team just has to find a new "big fish" every now and then willing to play the role when the old one is eventually banned.

So to paraphrase: Due to Govt. failure we need more Govt..
Yep, The Advocate outed themselves again as a bunch of weak, incapable, irresponsible, idiots whose only solution to everything is more govt..
The old joke has a new dialogue:
Patient: Dr. it hurts when I do this!
Dr.: More govt.!!!
