Where I’m at in the Shenandoah valley, we shop primarily at Martins (Giant subsidiary) or Wal Mart. Martins is fine and nothing extravagant so we shop there 99% of the time.

However, we are getting a Publix that will literally be a 2 minute drive from my house as opposed to a 10-15 minute drive depending on traffic to martins. So this is exciting especially for quick grocery runs if we forgot something.

I’m curious though how their prices stack up. Are they more on the budget side or the Whole Foods/costly side?

Never been to a Publix before so I have no idea what their offerings are beyond basic groceries.

Less than Whole Foods, more than pretty much everywhere else.

Walmart = Burger King - "What you be wantin'"
Publix = Chick Fil A - "My Pleasure"

In the age of NIL Jameis wouldn't have to steal crab legs from Publix

Expensive.

That said, their deli subs and sandwiches are amazing. I really enjoy their baked items (the bread especially). Their seafood counter is well stocked and fresh. Meat department kinda meh, imo.

I'd guess 20-30% higher than Kroger, which is probably similar to your standard grocer up your way.

yeah, I agree, but it's one of the first places we hit when we go to Florida though because we miss not having them around

Publix is more expensive than Kroger, Walmart, Albertson's, Aldi, and Winn Dixie, but cheaper than Whole Foods and Fresh Market.

They are more expensive than the typical places, but they always have BOGO sales.

Pretty much on par with Whole Foods price wise tbh.

But they make up for it with the best sandwich bar you will ever try. (Uses Boars Head meat and they’re gigantic)

*Download the Publix app and you can make your custom sandwiches ahead of time and skip the inevitable long line they’ll have and
Go straight to pick it up.

Depends on the product, but Publix is consistently higher than Walmart. Beef prices at Publix are absolutely insane.

Seafood is listed to where it was caught at which is nice.

You are paying extra for clean aisles, working shopping carts that are stocked, and employees who are helpful. It’s worth the premium over a Kroger or Wal Mart.

Definitely isn’t as expensive Whole Foods / Fresh Market / Trader Joe’s.

Maybe comparable to HEB

Yeah, like everyone says, Publix is a bit more than the average supermarket but, in my opinion, is a more pleasant 30 minutes of your life than some of the others cheaper chains with many better options as well.

Publix is a little more expensive but I’ve always noticed they have a better selection and their deli and bakery are above those of other grocery chains.

Their bogos are great, and their in-house Publix brand is very good.

Publix is just fine. It’s my go to. If you are smart you start to see their BOGO’s and kind of how they rotate around. Buy things like detergent things you know you will be using at those prices. It works for me.

I know someone that works for Publix. Not at an individual store but like over a region or something along those lines.

He essentially said that the way they do their pricing is just different than Walmart/Kroger. They are viewed as a "everyday low price" type of business. Where almost everything is slightly cheaper but nothing is SUPER cheap.

Publix model is known as a High/Low. Where if it isnt on sale youre going to be paying more for it than the others But when the BOGO hits right or certain deals hit (looking at you prime rib deal the week before christmas) they are in fact cheaper.

Im lucky and have a Kroger a couple minutes away and a publix 10 minutes away. I check Publix ads and go in for certain things. I do everything i cant find on sale through delivery with Krogers monthly plan.
