Long story short, I applied for a job. I got the job pending a background check. They said they'd get back to me once it's done. It's been 4 days. I have a speeding ticket. That's it. I have a clean record. What's going on here? BTW, can someone do a background check with just my name?

It looks like you just aren't cut out for Burger King. Better luck next time.

About 4 days usually, but it depends on the job you are applying for. Mine took over a week.

I wouldn't worry too much about it if the worst you have is a speeding ticket.

Background checks require more than a name.

Depends. If it's a consumer credit and arrest/conviction check, shouldn't take more than 24 hrs. If it's a government clearance, that can take a long time: the higher the classification, the longer the wait, usually.

My wife rejected a guy with a speeding ticket after she got the report back. Of course, he had two of them within three days of each other, each for going 25+mph above the limit. Wasn't a driving job, so she asked me what I thought. I reckon I've done something stupid like that myself, but that second aggravated speeding charge in three days indicated to me that he had a hard time learning lessons.

I've gone through probably 10 background checks. It has taken up to a week for me.

My federal background check took 3 months. Not sure how long it takes for walmart employees.

I'm in a similar boat at the moment. They haven't initiated just yet, but was told 7-10 business days FWIW.

The current hurdle i'm dealing with that is making me want to jump off a bridge is lawyers being annoying about my garden leave and the policy around it.

How many different counties/parishes have you lived in?

I’ve heard that can make a difference as some places they have to physically go to the courthouse to get the information.

It can depend on how many different counties/parishes/states you’ve lived in, and what all they’re checking. Some courthouses are slow to respond. Mine came back in less than a day for my current job (simple criminal background check), but I’ve seen them take up to a week.

Depends on the type of job and how thorough the investigator is. What type of credentials are required for the job, etc. Might surprise you, but people lie about things.

Well, it depends on the check and the clearance. My full GSA badge came back in a couple of weeks. I've been waiting for my US Marshals clearance for months.

The place we use only processes once a week. If we send one over on Monday we’ll get it back on Thursday. If we send it on a Tuesday it is the following Thursday.

Had an interview and they said they wanted to know everything about me. Told them I had crabs once and was hired on the spot
