Costco is always over crowded and takes forever to check out.

Costco is trash and full of Asians navigating what a gas pump is for the first time in their lives. Sam's is about getting you what you need. Costco needs you to "shop" like a woman, which is why they don't have curbside or Scan N Go.

I don't need your 12 pack of Dubai chocolate ice cream bars, I need my six pounds of grass fed beef and a tank of gas, bitches.

Scan and go is like the invention of velcro. Absolute game changer. I used to hate to go there, now it's quite tolerable.

I filled up this past weekend @ Sam's in Lafayette for $3.589gal, is currently $4.199gal in my hometown. $0.61 is considerable for a 20gal purchase($12.20)...

Ahh yes. Because the people at Costco love to stand buggy to buggy while shopping. Then wait in a long arse line to get checked out. To then stand in another long arse line to get their reciept checked at the door so they are allowed to leave with the items they just purchased.

Sam’s scan and go is so much more efficient.

Generally, gas can be between $0.10 to as much as $0.60 lower at both Sam's and Costco, so it you live close by it's worth it just for that, especially if you aren't WFH.

All the things previous mentioned, and their produce is significantly cheaper. 6 heads of Romaine lettuce for the same price as 3 in Wal-Mart. Apples, fresh and frozen broccoli, riced cauliflower, etc. if you have the freezer room, it’s definitely worth it.

Protein shakes, club $2 pizza slices and $9 full pizzas, cheaper wine (not cheaper than Total Wine), delicious cakes (sheet cakes and cookie cakes). Grab and go meals like the taco kit, chicken Alfredo, enchiladas. Chicken salad needs a little work- I add brown mustard, pickles and celery seed

This might be a coincidence, but I find more often than not that my cart averages out to $10/item.

ETA: my parents and brother have a card on our account, and the cash back pays for the renewal every year, plus $50-75.

I’ve given membership card as a stocking stuffer to my wife last few christmases. I don’t think I’ve paid over $50 for annual membership ever. There’s always some promotion. One year it cost me $10. I more than make up for that in trips to the gas station alone. The only way it’s not be worth it is if you didn’t go. The place is absolutely packed every time I go so obviously there’s value in it

Both Costco and Sam's have their pluses and minuses but costcos constant of scanning the membership card and checkout process is crazy in this day and age.

If sams were good enough to be packed like Costco, you wouldn't save time. You only save time because Sams is empty from being subpar and people with any sense know it.

Costco hasn't implemented their version of scanNgo because they've shown that from in to out the door, it doesn't save their shoppers time.

It speaks volumes that Costco has to have a constant vigil to keep unvetted people out and Sams doesn't have that problem. No one wants to sneak into a friggin Sams

You have scan your card to get in, wait in line who knows how long to check out, then wait in another line to get your receipts and items checked before you can exit. You can do business with Costco but only cult members defend it.

I went to Sam's yesterday for the first time in ~1 year (wife goes monthly) and frankly it sucked. Lots of MM items were more expensive than the equivalent GV/equate on walmart+ app.

For example plain greek yogurt, which I buy a ton of, was 1c/oz more expensive at Sams (in bulk) than Wal Mart's basic. Yea it's one cent, but the whole point of bulk buying is that it's supposed to be cheaper. Their 85% ground meat was more expensive then Wal Mart's 93%. Their top sirloin was more expensive than the Canseco's top sirloin (weekly special). And it was an absolute fricking zoo, even with scan & go. If I had had to stand in those lines, I would've straight up walked out.

I don’t believe any of that. How could it possibly not save time to scan as you shop instead of waiting in line at the end? Only way I can see this being true is if you have a large portion of your customer base that can’t do it right and have to be stopped on the way out. I’ve only been stopped one or two times coming out of Sam’s for either forgetting to scan an item or still having an item scanned that I ended up putting back.

I don't think the previous poster answered this question. At Sam's, if you have the APP, you can register your CC. As you go through the store you can scan your items, when you are done, you hit check out and walk through the "metal detector" at the exit and 9.5/10 the person standing at the door says you are good to go. As other's have said, it is a game changer.

I have gotten out of my truck, walked to and through the store and back to my truck for a rotisserie chicken countless times continuously walking.

We go to Sams more than Costco, they just have overall better prices and the meats are the same, but the value is better.

The quality of their steaks beats all of our local grocery chains. Gasoline prices keep us happy especially on cross country trips.
But there are two additional things that haven't been mentioned enough:
Place your order from home, and then next day or day after drive in, and have it delivered to your car in a one hour period: never have to go into the store.
And then there's home delivery for a lot of items they don't have in store (like a really quality extra virgin olive oil, the thai coconut milk that i prefer for Thai curries, bulk canned cat food that they have trougle keeping in the store because the price is so much better than other grocery stores.

We live in the country and it's about twenty miles to town. Getting things delivered to our door (Prime Membership) saves at least two gallons of gas, and time it would take to wander through the store with a list in hand.

We have both sams and costco...costco doesn't sell produce that has been coated with bill gates "apeel" which is made with toxins.
