I don’t think anyone who willingly scripts themselves into this position is entirely straight:

I’m a lifelong fan and haven’t heard this. Who makes this claim? Not doubting you; just curious.

Vince made some cryptic comments about it when he did a Playboy interview around 2000.

Going to wrestlemania in 2018 was one of the best live experiences I ever had in my life. If that makes me gay, bring out the ring boys.

What’s your take on the HBK hug clip, Clint?
I can't defend Shawn in any way during the 90s.
I feel too many people grew up trying to be Shawn Michaels..and not enough people tried to be like Bret Hart. Had they, then thr business would be better off.
As far as Vince and Shawn, I wish. Believe me, I'd love for evidence to come out.

Everyone and their mother who attempts to be a spotmonkey is a combination of Dynamite Kid, Shawn Michaels, and AJ Styles rolled into one.
Outside of maybe a select few, it's rare that I see callbacks to Bret and Owen. Punk and FTR are probably the only ones that actually, beat for beat, retell spots from some of their classic matches.

That's the only explanation for why he let HBK get away with so much in the 90s.

It probably started with Vince Sr, who knows.
What I do know is that those guys who were around in the 80s-90s sure did turn a blind eye to a lot of shite.

Him and HBK being lovers? I first heard the Road Warriors talk about it a shoot before Hawk died. It's the most plausible explanation for why HBK was able to get away with so much in the 90s despite being a box office flop.

Unfortunately, I think Bret’s two lasting legacies have been the Montreal Screwjob and the “Five Move of Doom” finishing sequence.
It is a shame because Bret was doing the whole Ric Flair “match with a broomstick” level carry jobs with crap opponents for a long time but not getting appreciated due to a lack of flash and shitty booking.

A lot of people questioned Vince’s dedication to Shawn and some came to that conclusion.
Others claim that it is because he saw a lot of himself in Shawn and cut him slack as a result.
That last one is not an intentional double entendre.

Also the rumor is Vince fricked shawn and that's why shawn was able to do whatever he wanted before finding God.
Eh..he was paying Shawn to stay home and not go to WCW. When he bought WCW, all of a sudden Shawn was healed and ready to make another comeback from his supposed 2nd career ending injury.
I wish it was more than meets the eye. God..I'd love to hear Cornette's take on it if any proof ever came out. Especially if Vince Russo was there too.

HBK signed a 5 year contract in the summer of 96 with a 750k annual downside. Vince had to pay him since he got hurt during a match. He was still fricked up on pills after Vince bought WCW.

Much like all the guys who got paid by Lloyd’s Of London, getting hurt in the ring is going to happen but an awful lot of those guys were claiming career ending injuries that weren’t necessarily the case.
Road Warrior Animal in particular manages to get paid off on his LoL policy AND be able to still work without paying it back as long as he only did tag matches and not singles matches.

Shawn made Vince millions of dollars. I’d probably
Hug him and cry and even kiss him on the cheek.
