I just put some sprinklers out to moisten the ground.

Might want to check yours too as it can lead to foundation issues.

Article about the risk

I also noticed the soil on top of my underground drainage pipes is cracked badly too. I guess because it's maybe only about 18" of soil on top of it.

Obviously but that is not a danger right now. The ground will suck up any water in a hurry.

Running the mower in a certain area of our yard looks like a sandstorm is coming through.

Welcome to Texas. My son’s rental agreement in Texas says he has to water the grass around the slab to prevent foundation issues.

I have this all around too because I hate gutters and gutters can cause termites. Not sure how this prevents the soil from drying up.

Be careful, you are threading dangerous water implying that it's abnormally dry and hot in South Louisiana. People don't like that here

A number of years ago, when I was still doing property claims adjusting, we noticed a lot of busted water line claims during another drought like this. It was busted lines under the slab of the home and I saw a ton of them.

From shifting soil and slabs?

Did you put plastic down first?

I have plastic tripled over with the edge 90 degrees almost at the slab edge. Filled that with rock. And then put the outside 12 inches under landscaping stones.

It would have to shed a lot of moisture to dry out back to the slab.

ETA: Installed bbq recently and dug down about 4.5ft. Didn't hit water, but it was very wet and tacky.

Can you offer anymore info on this? Was there a determining cause?

I’m pumping with my 2” water pump out of a freshwater canal with a 2” hose just flooding the yard. It soaks it up like a sponge.

Is that legal? Irrigate your yard from a publicly owned unmetered water source?

Crazy, we just had our grass cut and I was inspecting his work 5 min ago. I noticed there's a one inch gap between the driveway and the grass/soil that wasn't there before. Thanks for this

I have heard of multiple cases where homeowners pretty much had to water their slabs.

It’s a private canal that I own the water bottom from where I pump.
