It is the centennial celebration of rte 66. It was a great 2 week road trip all the way to Santa Monica pier. I was surprised to meet so many people from around the world who were here to tour rte 66. They were on busses, in vans, and rode in motorcycle groups. I was able to stay in 3 of the old classic hotels along the route, the Boots in Carthage Mo., the LA Pasada in Winslow Az., and the El Vado in Albuquerque NM. I highly recommend this nostalgic road trip
This is called being retired or having your own business. No way I would have the time to spend two weeks on Route 66 + drive from California to Florida. I'm not rich enough to not work, either. If I make it to 70, hopefully, I'll be doing the same thing, but I'm still in my 30's

This is what I’d like to do one day. Route 66 and also the Pacific Coast. Fly to Washington and drive through California. Then fly out.

Now you go through Saint Louis
Joplin, Missouri
And Oklahoma City looks mighty pretty
You'll see Amarillo
Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona
Don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino
Won't you get hip to this timely tip
When you make that California trip
Get your kicks on Route 66

At least upload a picture of you standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. Would be such a fine site to see.
The song is a lie, it happened in Flagstaff, but that doesn't sound as good in lyrics.

Last summer was my first time really paying attention to it while driving. I hit portions of it prior but didn’t think anything of it. Last year it hit me. I’ll be doing a short stretch later this summer.

Doing 66. 1972 post Army ETS driving cross country to Corvallis with life's belongings and a lot of OD clothes in a Chevy Nova. Stopped for gas at Winslow Stuckys thinking they'll not cheat me into a shop fix. Pump guy had GI-issue glasses and bad limp. Said he wasn't a vet, but got bent as a diver for Jacques Cousteau. I drove on. Got hit with ice picked tire in OR. Life is what it is.

I really want to do that pulling a trailer and stay at campgrounds along the way.

Yeah. Don’t forget Barstow. If you can find beauty in that shite hole, you’re an eternal optimist.

Exactly what I will be doing on my route from Kingman to Chicago. The goal is to stay off the interstate as much as possible.

I saw many camp sites/parks on my trip. Plus you could use the truck stops, but you shouldn't have any trouble. Just prepare for LA traffic

So how deserted is it along RT 66? Is it possible to not (be able to) find gas/deisel stations?

Wife and I were in Winslow on the 25th. That was the price for me dragging her to see the Berringer Crater nearby.
Those mushroom sauce cheeseburger sliders at Relic Road Brewery were legit.

Yes I saw the blue whale. They just finished remodeling the whale and put up a neon sign, looks great!

Plenty fuel stops along 66. Only dry spell would be the stretch across the Mojave desert in California.
