Clickbait? Yeah but it's true.

Katt Williams bought a portion of Ft McClellan in Anniston, AL that he plans to convert into a movie studio/lot.

frick you Tyler Perry!

LINK

quote:

Katt Williams’ dreams of being a movie mogul have taken him to Alabama, where the comedian purchased a former military base with the intention to launch a movie studio.

“I can’t disclose the amount or exact location just yet, but I can confirm that he has purchased a former military base in Alabama,” Williams’ publicist, Amy Sisoyev, said in an email Thursday to AL.com.

While the comedian is mum on the property he purchased, Fort McClellan’s Cold War-era barracks in Anniston had been up for sale at a $1.5 million asking price.

AS cool as that is, I did not know you could buy a military base for $1.6 million.

I use to go up to the PX on McClellan when it was still open. Seemed like a nice base from what I saw. During my guard years we spent a lot of time at Pelham Range just up the road from the base.

It's not the entire base. It is just the part where the "Starships" barracks were/are. That piece of property had those barracks and like 115 acres for sale. The entire fort consists of around 45,000 acres.

Here's a local story from June about the property being up for sale and some quotes from the real estate broker selling it:
quote:

The propertywith close to a million square feet of buildings is being sold for $1.5 million. The Luxe Group in Birmingham is representing the seller of the property and a potential buyer.

quote:

"Listing this property has allowed us to see the passion so many have for the area. So many have shared their stories with us about when they stayed here. The future for this property is very bright! We are currently working with some major names to make this place come alive again. My hope is the city of Anniston will thrive with the new owners and development. It’s very exciting, to say the least.

I've been giving a thought to this base naming business. All the virtue signal renaming needs to be done away with, but we have a chance to make it count. We need to auction off naming rights to every base we own to the highest bidder. Use the proceeds to pay down debt.

Ft. Kat Williams could be a reality.

Grew up a few miles from there. Grandpa retired master sgt at the MP academy before it shut down. Always heard they refused to sell it in portions.

West anniston has or at least used to have a higher violent crime rate than anywhere. Hwy 21 divides east from west.

I used to pay 175 a month for a 1br apartment on the most eastern part of west anniston back in 2005.

Them was the days.

Could buy a whole arse house down west 19th for 10-12K so i never undeestood why people complained about not making much.

A lot of fort mcclellan land is now mountain longleaf wildlife refuge and it's really beautiful land around there. I have driven around and hiked around there a good bit, and I've always thought that it'd be an interesting setting for a horror or Sci fi movie. It's kind of erie around there for reasons I can't really explain. Pretty cool.

The starships are awesome. Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy still trains new police recruits there. Trained many an active shooter scenarios on that piece of property.

Why’s that gotta be an FU to Tyler Perry?

Also, redeveloping a military base ends up costing at least 10x what you pay for it.

My dad was a battalion commander there when I was in HS in the late 80s. Katt will make it the Hollywood of the South!

Anniston will love him if he brings jobs in. That area needs the help.

Yeah. Anniston use to be your typical “base town.” Pretty much the whole town grew up around the base. Once they closed down Fort McClellan, it pretty much killed Anniston.
