Belt across the back, butt, and legs b/c I wouldn’t hold still. Got whipped a bunch. Dad stopped whipping me with his hand on my butt because he almost broke his hand whipping me one time.

I thought most of my whippings were BS. If my dad was in a bad mood there was a high chance I got a whipping. If I was having a bad day there was a high chance I got a whipping. He would make me pick out the belt every time from his closet. It was like walking the green mile. If I was told I was getting a whipping it was over. Apologizing for what I did or remaining good for the remainder of the day never saved me from a whipping once.

My dad used the belt as a last resort. But if he did me and my sister really knew that we pissed him off.

The worst either one of us got the belt was in 1995 after Hurricane Opal blew through West Central GA/S.Metro Atlanta. We were cleaning up and my sister kept refusing to help to the point that my dad had finally had enough; he leaned her up against the big oak in the back yard, pulled her pants down and beat her arse. I've never seen him so mad. She cried the rest of the night.

Never used the belt. When I seriously fuc_ked up he picked me up from my neck and threw me across the room. Let's just say I never did that shite again...

Mom played the “who can hit the softest” game with us. She let us go first and we’d lightly tap her, then she’d haul off and crack the bejesus out of us declaring that we won.

There were belts and coat hangers but we knew we messed up when they’d hold up a thick phone book to our heads and punch it hard. It didn’t leave any marks the way an open hand or fist would. Dad would only whip us because he had to and he’d explain it away. “I’m only doing this so your mother doesn’t get pissed at me.” Understood dad, understood. Many, many, many things all of us did went into the category of dad laughing at us and giving his fatherly guidance of: “we need to swear we are not telling your mother about this.”

I had friends whose parents were Missouri Synod Lutheran. They got beat bad with belts and the impression I got was that the dad seemed to like really beating them. I remember once we got changed to go swimming at school and their butts and thighs were deep black and blue. Nowadays the teacher would have to call child services and the police. Most of us were spanked back then but never that bad. The family had a paddle hanging on the wall in their kitchen but the dad always whipped them with a belt. I recall once when I was over playing one of their kids acted up and the mom got the paddle and the poor kid ran around the house avoiding her like he was afraid he'd get beat bad. I went back home when that started.
