My kids' school just sent an email summarized as "We don't see any real threat for Monday in Baton Rouge, so we are having a school. We will close Tuesday and Wednesday though from the future threat of a storm thats still way out and not even in the gulf." SMH
Our kids goto the same school

They should have canceled Monday and then wait and see for rest of week.

I agree. Think Tuesday will be clear.

The shear is pretty obvious over Marco with all the cloudiness displaced to the NE. You can also see a little tongue of dry air on the SW side. So obvious limits to intensification are in place. The storm is pulsing some impressive convection near the center, typical of a storm fighting shear but with a nice warm water pool to work with.
Seems like it's holding serve with the NHC forecast to this point. I'm still thinking a TS for landfall tomorrow vs it still being a hurricane though.
Doubt the NHC does much of a path change at 4 pm for either system.

seriously... did NOAA9 get called into a search & rescue mission? they keep circling the same spot over and over off the Florida west coast
That’s the hurricane hunters. They drop the dropsondes into the eye of the cane to check the pressure and wind speed. They go every few hours. The data from the dropsondes is what nhc uses to update the category of the canes and the width of the eye etc. the pressure drops tell a lot about the health of the storm

Looks like the track shifted slightly East?

Don't worry the projected route will change at least 5 times before landfall

Could you circle it for me??? I'd love to see and learn. Thanks.

Truly not panicked -- it's just always weird to see. That said, we've got what we need and my husband is getting the generator ready.

I know what that plane is... that's just not a path I'm used to seeing them fly
you usually see the "alpha" pattern when a plane is inside a storm

unless called to do something else... or as someone else stated earlier in response to my questions... the plane was calibrating its instruments

I did and then my drawing didn't save and I got lazy.
So look like halfway between the Yucatan and the central blob of storms. See the darker gray air relative to the surroundings? That's it. It's not a lot but it's always been expected to be there and might be something Marco sucks into the circulation. With the shear around, that would kill any future hurricane chances if it takes a gulp.

Duke- I just heard someone from NHC say up to 15 inches of rain. In the link (thanks again) that shows cumulative rain falls I am not seeing much of that. How are you feeling in general about the Morgan City area?
