I-TEAM: Contractors hired by EBR Mayor’s office say they haven’t been paid
quote:
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A contractor employed for the Safe Hopeful Healthy Baton Rouge initiative claims paychecks have been sporadic and unreliable from Mayor-President Sid Edwards’ office since January, a claim Mayor-President Edwards acknowledged Friday. However, Edwards said there are legitimate reasons to explain the situation. Several contracts, including Rodrick Jarreau’s, were signed on December 30, 2024, as Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome was on her way out of office. Edwards said once he took over, he had to make sense of all of it. Now, the WAFB I-TEAM has learned the delays are the result of consultants and other agencies vetting those deals.
quote:
Jarreau works with at-risk youth in our community.
“I mediate and counsel kids that are at risk and kids that are facing expulsion and suspension,” said Jarreau. “Things that may have gotten them in trouble away from school, on the streets, we go in and we help them out through our counseling and mentoring program.” Edwards said his office began looking at how each dollar was spent when he took over. “Anyone who is not being paid, there are some compliance issues,” said Edwards. “It may be minor paperwork not being signed. No sinister reason, but we have to make sure we are right.”
It’s crazy how many of these “programs” were funded by Broome and her cronies.

Oh so they weren’t real contractors actually working. Bye
Posted on 4/22/25 at 10:08 am to cajuntiger1010
Technically they were contractors in that they were contracted to the city but really they were just getting taxpayer money to provide services that don’t work and no one asks what the results are. Of course, Broome gave him the contract on her way out too.

Edwards said others can continue to expect delays as the vetting process plays out because his administration did not blanketly cancel contracts when they took over.
Hey Sid, cancel these contracts. If the contractor is sincere, they will reapply. These sound like boondoggles anyway.

They all seem to just be money pits that amount to no improvement.

A lot of mediating going on in EBR.

No one knows because no one asks for results. That’s the beauty of the scam.

A municipal DOGE audit would be eye opening.

The older I’ve gotten the more I’ve realized these individuals simply need to be removed from society in some way.

Combined office of Mayor of Baton Rouge and EBR Parish President.

It’s a combination of an inept mayor giving money to her politically connected friends who are looking for a quick buck knowing they don’t have to perform. Everyone knows it’s a scam but the mayor gets to say she’s “doing something”.

Sounds like something a charity would do for free, like Big Brother or the YMCA, etc.

He should have voided the contracts with the first invoice if he did not have "sense of all it" instead of allowing the contractor to continue the services they were invoicing for. There should be some sort of contracting office with some sort of contract oversight which is not political in nature....they most likely had a "sense of it all". if there is not such an entity everybody involved but the trial lawyers are fricked 4 ways from Sunday. You can't just enjoy some "benefit" from someone's labor that you know about and not pay them for their effort...thats a pretty foundational element of contract law....

This is why I am against voting for more taxes. Right now the DA wants his own tax, but I believe we pay enough taxes now and we just need to reallocate where our tax dollars go.
We have a host of consultants doing things for the parish with little or no results. This is one example. The rats were literally running out the food, yet they were still helping their friends.

LOL....Thats funny I don't care who you are. No doubt its truer in more areas than one would think.....probably almost if not the norm for follow on administrations to continue to pay with no idea of what they are paying for
