the monks at some Louisiana monastery were going to use all the tree/driftwood debris to make free coffins for the families of Katrina victims, and the state federation of woodworkers stepped in and shut down the monks from doing so
Close, but not quite. The monks were going to sell the coffins starting in 2007 (after Katrina) to generate revenue to pay for the medical and educational needs of more than 30 Benedictine monks. It was the board of state funeral directors (not woodworkers) that sent them a cease and desist letter, citing a state law that says caskets can only be sold to the public by a state-licensed funeral director at a state-licensed funeral home.
The monks sued and won in fed court. I was for them all the way. LINK Another LINK

People need to research how many licensing boards and laws LA has that impede commerce.

Many a good man or woman has been stricken in the prime of life by an ill conceived, unlicensed flowe arrangement. Licensing is a must.
Next, they’ll go after beauticians….

Was this a big problem in the past?

Haven’t you ever marched into your local florist and DEMANDED to see their license?
Yeah, me neither.
Yeah, me neither.

Govern me harder, daddy.
You liberals need the govt to tell what to do because yall are too stupid to make your own decisions.

Maybe I overestimate me toughness. But I feel I can survive a bouquet from a non licensed florist

yes, do it like Texas does...you can't register your vehicle until you have completed an inspection.
SC used to require inspections, it was all a huge scam.
We did away with vehicle inspections probably 35 years or more ago, life didn’t come to an end.

How and why is that even a real thing?

I was today years old when I learned you needed a license to arrange flowers.
I didn’t realize that either.
And I didn’t realize Louisiana had a union representing people who stick cut flowers into a vase.
