When does the medical school send out decisions? Son had interview last year and is sitting on pins and needles. They have not said anything other than application is under review.

Any time between now and the first day of med school. I had a guy in my med school class that got officially accepted the day before classes started.

Also, if he gets accepted, tell him the time between getting accepted to med school and starting med school is fricking glorious. After class starts, life gets real busy real fast.

All depends, but it's rolling so people get it throughout the year. A large batch will usually go out in March, and another in April. After that it's sporadic if you're on wait list. A classmate of mine got accepted the Friday before our first day

If he doesn’t get in this year, tell him to work at a hospital or for a doctor and try again next year.

Been where your son is 4x. They have a big advocacy meeting probably around next month or early May where everyone will receive an update. If your son has anything meaningful to add to his file, he can update admissions (like a new healthcare job, etc)

My sister (no pics) was moving in at Shreveport when she got notified she was accepted in Nola. 3-4 days before class started I think. My dad (no pics) went to med school in Nola and had some connections but my sister has too much pride, and is brilliant, and wouldn’t let him call in any favors. I think it actually lit a fire in her and she ended up top of her class in med school at Shreveport and was in the top 1 percentile on her boards or some shite. Crazy they can wait up until the last minute to let you know you e made the cut.

There is a ranked waitlist and if someone backs out last minute they will go down the order. However, you can’t bank on that happening.
If your son still is on the waitlist after May, it’s best to apply again and for him to ask admissions to see where he can improve for the next year.

Call your state senator and have them speak to med school president and get your status.

Connections always help. I know some LSU med students who got in with low MCAT scores or with checkered backgrounds but who had connections. Can’t wait to see what happens when they start practicing medicine.

Are you saying if his son has a sex change and identifies as another race he has a better chance?

If you are black and have average MCAT and GPA your chance of getting in is basically 100%

If you are a white male with same resume its probably 30% or so

The waitlist is usually made in the middle of May. That is when a lot of applicants are denied and the others are put on a waitlist. A lot of movement happens in May
