”Market Adjustment” in New Vehicle

I went to order a new vehicle today that I had specked out online at the car manufacturer’s website. When I sent the info to 2 local dealers’ salesman, they called me back and said that there was a market adjustment to the price. That market adjustment is actually about 25% of the total sales price. Completely unacceptable.
Has anyone dealt with this issue? I assume there’s at least some ability to negotiate that amount but I’m really not interested in paying much if at all of some gratuitous fee. Does anyone know whether you can get it for MSRP if you go directly to the manufacturer and perhaps pick it up at a manufacturing facility? The thousand mile drive home would be well worth the amount of money they want for the market adjustment.

You can't go buy direct from the manufacturer.
Whether the adjustment is legit or not is completely dependent on the vehicle. I personally am not paying adjustments, but I'm not buying super rare one off spec vehicles right now.

That’s all straight profit as a “market adjustment”. Get them to send it to you in writing and then file a complaint with the FTC under CARS Rule. Also file a complaint with the actual manufacturer. You want it in writing so you can provide the documentation.
Edit: I just reread your post. It looks like you just went online and specced it out and then sent it to the dealer to let them work on getting it for you. FTC CARS may not cover that, but I would still file the complaint.

Most states don’t allow direct sales. It’s why we are stuck on this bullshite dealership model where they can add a 25% bullshite fee.

it really depends on the vehicle and your market. I would get on cars.com and autotrader and find out how many cars are out there that are the same as what you want and start hitting all the dealers and see if you can find someone that is looking to deal. I would have no problem hopping on a plane and driving back to save 25% of msrp. or you can get the dealer to set you up for a delivery in most cases.

was negotiating a deal for a new truck a couple of weeks ago and it fell through, just bad timing, Ford, not the dealership, has sent me a debit card for $1100 for my trouble and has offered me their X pricing on whatever I want, all really just because I got up and left

Stop negotiating with dealers. Build and price on manufacturers website. Order it. Wait a few weeks or months, you get a vehicle delivered to the same dealer with no markup.

actually the dealership model is much better for the consumer. the manufacturer isnt going to pass the savings on to you and you wont be able to negotiate a better deal with the manufacturer like you can a dealer that is looking to move a vehicle that has been on the lot or shooting for bonuses based on sales volume.

That’s not that works 99% of the time.
Op, what make and model did you spec. I don’t think anything but brand new limited models are still doing ADM

Yep. I'd buy a used one online before I paid 25% above MSRP. Some of these dealerships still think it's 2020-2021.

It's got to be something odd/rare, I have a Raptor R on order and it's only a 10K markup.

Did you laugh at him, call him a jackass, and walk away?
Because if not, you did it wrong.

Eh not a lot of cars with 25%. Were you looking for a Porsche or something?
